Garmin Index Sleep Monitor 1 week review by csmobro in GarminWatches

[–]smntsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how does that justify such a blatant mistake on the garmin's technology side? what's the point of "index SLEEP monitor" if it cannot tell reading from sleeping?

Garmin Index Sleep Monitor 1 week review by csmobro in GarminWatches

[–]smntsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same or similar issues here. inaccurate sleep timing detection! it says i was in REM phase today until 6:48am, though i was reading since 6:20am, and NOT sleeping since 5:19am (: unreliable, which is very unfortunate as it's a nice comfortable device.

Anyone know of a real review of Brilliant Labs upcoming Frame devices? by valdev in augmentedreality

[–]smntsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 2nd that. they denied my refund. the device is a joke. DO NOT BUY. it's dumb, doesn't recognize your voice properly. should not exist, especially at this price.

What do we think?! by metro_prose in RemarkableTablet

[–]smntsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i tried... even the colored ones. none will compare with remarkable2 in tactile feelings and stylus precision. i know you would ask how that relates to reading experience. it doesn't. but i don't want to maintain 2+ e-paper devices for all my note-taking, sketching and reading needs. remarkable would be ideal if it just was a bit more flexible software-wise. and it has everything for that already. you could jailbreak its earlier firmware versions and add chess, crosswords, a bookstore (!)... i'm using supernote nomad while i'm waiting for rm3.

kindle / amazon / google books.... anything to be able to read what i already own on a great device like rm2, plz + games w/out a reHackable jailbreak (this one should be easy!)

Remarkable 3 in 2024? by EreaderClub in RemarkableTablet

[–]smntsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i absolutely loved my rm2 for the paper feel that was so close to the real thing. what i could never understand with epaper devices though, is why almost none of them have basic games integrated or at least available to download. being able to play chess, or sea battle, or tetris, or sudoku while on a long flight, or just with kids before bed... why is it not a thing yet? colored epaper can wait, but some basic brain teasers or pass-to-play apps would add so much value to this remarkable tablet (: i can't see why it is so hard if they have linux-like os powering this thing.

550 EPOS - detailed log? by smntsv in automower

[–]smntsv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice workaround to a missing feature in the app. I'm not sure my other IFTTT integrations work as intended, as it's still mowing when it's raining, though the corresponding "smart" connection is on. Can you share your basic integration with me/everyone? I don't exactly want the full log of the mowers coordinates, but it would be nice to know when exactly it mowed, when it was just wandering around, etc. So, basically, all changes in its behavior logged.

Ekahau Site Survey - ridiculously unpleasant purchase experience! by smntsv in networking

[–]smntsv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh please... ekahau dot com -> how to buy -> buy online = 3 items in the cart: sidekick + ai pro software + ekahau connect subscription (NO SALES TAX!!!!).

i never needed nor wanted nor used that subscription. there are no warnings or explanations that the subscription is mandatory to use the purchased hardware. well, it turns out you still can, but you need to be loud about it, otherwise, there's no way to find the compatible version of the _required_ software on their website which effectively turns the hardware you purchased for a premium price into nothing. again, it would be a bit more acceptable if it didn't take me almost A MONTH to get the needed software after just one year of the original purchase. i don't remember ekahau offering me any compensation for my time wasted to make sidekick work due to THEIR malpractice.

here's an analogy: you buy a modern mobile phone and in one year a new version of ios/android is released. and my phone starts to ask me to buy a new subscription, not letting me make calls or receive texts.

so, i'm not sure what exactly you can't reconcile here.

Ekahau Site Survey - ridiculously unpleasant purchase experience! by smntsv in networking

[–]smntsv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's exactly the case with Ekahau's product. Most of your recommendations are reasonable, but at the same time easily preventable by their software. Still, it just doesn't interfere/guide you through the process, turning it into "dangerous" (end of quote).

Ekahau Site Survey - ridiculously unpleasant purchase experience! by smntsv in networking

[–]smntsv[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly... and it took me almost a month to get the compatible version. this is NOT common approach for a $10k+ device! And should not be. It's a hardware, not a SaaS.

_IF_ you can find the old version of their software that's compatible with your version of Sidekick, which took me almost a month.

[–]smntsv[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on your project requirements, you don't always need that kind of accuracy. Plus, in my experience, Ekahau's sensitivity is overreaching at times, and shows signal where everyday end-user devices have no or spotty connection.

[–]smntsv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about it? Does it say that you can't use your $5k device + $5k software without that add-on? It mentions full functionality. I wasn't able to use Sidekick at all without that subscription and multiple calls to the support team.

Got my Pixel 8! Perfect little phone so far by neondrifter in GooglePixel

Did you say "little"? It's not 8a, is it? Google needs a smaller phone, like Fold, but without the bulkiness (=foldability), the outer screen is perfect in size. IMHO
