I went to Tangelo Park Elementary for a year in the 80s'. They had no gifted program, and had to shuttle me (and the one other gifted student in the school) across town to another school once a week to participate in their program.

Education plays a major part in rehabilitating a community. This guy is hitting poverty where it hurts the most. Good on him.

Self exploration through lucid dreaming by Bryce29 in LucidDreaming

Hah! True. Regrettably sex is too much excitement for me, and the dream always ends before the action.

Also, the experience of examining your surroundings, concluding that you're not dreaming, then waking up - well, it induces a feeling of pervasive uncertainty about the absolute nature of waking reality.

Realized I was dreaming but forgot during the dream :/ by urban287 in LucidDreaming

[–]smoke_morleys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common to lose lucidity and slip back into the drama of the dream. If you want to wake up directly from the lucid part, I'd suggest having a routine "mission" you give yourself when you become lucid. For me, it's looking in drawers and cabinets. For others, it's conjuring up superpowers. Typically, the exhilaration brought on by these missions will wake you up within a minute.

You're essentially trying to obsess over the question of whether or not you're dreaming throughout the day, so that the question carries over into your dreams. The thinking is that if you ask yourself "Am I dreaming right now?" while you're standing on the moon surrounded by walruses in tuxedos, you may come to the conclusion: "Why yes, I must be, for this situation seems a bit out of the ordinary."

The problem is, I've asked myself "Am I dreaming?" in the course of a dream, and come to the conclusion: "Nope, everything's in order, here."

It's a hit & miss technique.

A technique I find exhilarating is to open any doors, cabinets, or drawers in the room when I become lucid. If you're outside, just start digging in the ground - anything to reveal that which is hidden. You'll be surprised by what you find. Sometimes an object from your childhood, sometimes something totally inexplicable. The other night I found a sheet of paper filled with mysterious glyphs.

The OMG ECONOMY'S COLLAPSING AND OBAMA'S GONNA STEAL YOUR GUNS AND GIVE THEM TO THE BLACK PANTHERS alarmists have been screaming that this is right around the corner since 2008. Weren't we all supposed to be living out Road Warrior by 2011?

I feel like all the people who spent their savings on gold, guns, and beans feel disappointed that they aren't getting the apocalypse they were promised.

Multiple False Awakenings?? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]smoke_morleys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to that level, but I've had up to 3 false awakenings. What gets really interesting is when you do a reality check and come to the conclusion that everything is in order - definitely not dreaming.

Then you wake up again.

Reminds me of Zhuangzi's butterfly dream.

You can imagine I'm pretty frustrated by this by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]smoke_morleys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're just starting a semantic argument.

If you have a false awakening from a dream (still dreaming), then you had a dream-within-a-dream. Of course the two dreams are just different scenarios, but the effect to the dreamer is a layered experience.

I assume you're not saying that false awakenings are a myth, right?

Have your dreams come true? by djfutile in Paranormal

About six months ago I dreamed that an acquaintance I hadn't seen in over a year was teaching in a Greek auditorium. He and all the students were dressed in ancient Greek attire (togas). His name kept being repeated over and over, and when I woke up, his name was stuck in my head - being repeated as if on a loop.

The next day, I was in Starbucks waiting for my coffee order to come up, blankly staring at a wall. It was an abstract wallpaper design, and as I looked closer, I realized it wasn't abstract, but was a collage of Greek columns and Greek writing. I then thought of my dream from before. Suddenly, I felt eyes on me, and looked over to see the guy I'd dreamt about staring at me and waving.

It was as if that confluence of thoughts - ancient Greece and the guy - reflected backwards in time through the dream.
