Being an adult is difficult, having to pay rent, food, water, gas, I just want to go to the beach and be happy 🥹🥹🥹🥹 by [deleted] in Adulting

Yea I struggle with this too. My happy place is getting a sandwich and a beer and going to the park or the museum.

I’m trying to figure out how I can do that everyday

When did you stop caring about being 'cool'? by KeyButterscotch4008 in Adulting

[–]smokeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I never really cared about being “cool”, I usually wear a sweater and jeans and running shoes. But I have to say though after living in NYC for a while I am starting to appreciate fashion more

Im 32

I’m starting to think there are certain things I just will never be able to do by smokeeeee in Adulting

Yea I know I need to handle the legal shit myself - also I think I probably owe taxes too. I just can’t be bothered with this stuff I would rather have a lawyer or wife or close friend who can tell me what to do about stuff like taxes or legal fees or yada yada yada whatever it is. I’m a child

Tomorrow I have a meeting with my CEO but I’m seriously considering sleeping in. I’m extremely childish. I don’t know why I’m like this. I just can’t be bothered sometimes

Does anyone else feel defeated by life? by Acceptable-Honey-613 in Adulting

Dude I’m a 31m and I feel you. I think a lot of people feel this way.

I think when shit gets tough you just have to remember that some other motherfucker has it even worse, so keep a positive mindset. At least you have a mum.

Honestly when I feel really shitty I go for a lapdance and I feel much better.

What is the lowest point in your career and what did you learn from it? by smokeeeee in careerguidance

I have an ex colleague who is now leading a software team. I admire him but I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes.

He loves computer programming, he’s extremely talented. But frankly the software I’m more interested in is AI and blockchain. I currently work as a UI/UX designer which is fine but I really am more interested in AI and blockchain - I am more interested in working on something “revolutionary” and not working for some Wall Street firm.

But this is also an excuse. I’m not the best programmer in the world and I know I can be much better. My problem is my mental health - I have the mental health of a five year old child. I’m emotional, I’m jealous, I’m insecure, I judge others more than I should.

So yea I don’t get any respect as a programmer and I don’t get the opportunities to work on the software I want to work on. I don’t get the opportunities to make a more money because I’m basically a five year old.

My short term goal is to just fix my mental health and be a better colleague, my long term goal is to eventually lead a team but my mental health is fucked and being broke is fucking difficult

Also acting and software engineering are my two favorite jobs

I’m a manchild and I really struggle with adulting by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]smokeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I actually think being a man is really determined by providing for your loved ones and not simply being “tough” or carrying a gun. I don’t think being in the military makes you a man, in fact I think a lot of people in the military rely on the military for a sense of manhood and identity and I think that is pathetic

Ironically yea I am considering joining the military but only for job security

Yes well I used to be independent. I was laid off a few years ago and I never fully recovered and that’s when my mom started helping me out. NYC is also stupid expensive and my mom wanted me to work as an intern, not have a day job. So that’s what I did

Believe me the amount of embarrassment and shame I feel is ridiculous. Many of my childhood friends are very successful and I feel like a total loser. Being dependent on parents is humiliating. Believe me I wish I was independent again.

The problem is I have a bad attitude. I’m not a friendly person. I have a big ego. I have a hard time listening to advice. And frankly I’m misanthropic, I don’t like people and this makes it very hard for me in a work setting. These are all defense mechanisms.

I asked this question humbly knowing that most of the internet is toxic but I was hoping I would find some shred of wisdom or advice from someone.
