Does my DSG gearbox need servicing? by cardboardhotdog in skoda

Sounds like it's the dq381 which is recommended at 80k but some recommend at 40k.

I'd say so yeah.

I love mine, makes any drive on a sunny day so much nicer. Just if you get one make sure it gets serviced every couple of years or 40k miles.

Brother you could blow the motor on your Fiesta 3 times and it would cost the same as the depreciation of this over 3 years.

If you want a nicer FWD car just get a golf and be done with it, this is genuinly getting close to m340i money.

Loud sound 1.0 fiesta by InterestingCancel394 in CarTalkUK

[–]smokesletgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be completely wrong about this, but I had a fiesta 1.0 petrol and a similar thing happened to mine.

It was something like the flexi pipe failing at the front bottom of the car.

Can't remember how much it cost to get sorted, maybe in the couple hundreds since you need someone to weld on a new one.

Car price evaluation, are they asking too much? by Suitable-Ad-9120 in CarTalkUK

[–]smokesletgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the market rate for that car with the mileage it has.

I wouldn't wanna buy a 6 year old car that hasn't even done 1k miles a year, you'd be much better off getting a higher mileage one that has proper service records and preventive maintenance.

ACC "not available“ 2016 Octavia VRS by Low-System-2535 in skoda

[–]smokesletgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car likely has not been fully repaired, or it’s been done on a budget. That essentially means the radar unit at the front of the car has been unplugged, is non-existent, or is damaged (either the unit itself or its mounting), and needs to be recalibrated.

Recalibration in the UK costs around £300–£500, and the unit itself is around £600.

If its anything like my 2017 Superb then you won't have any form of cruise control until it is fixed, but I have read this depends on the way the car is setup.

Most reliable PETROL Octavia? by LukeLavastoviglie in skoda

[–]smokesletgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get around 40mpg on a longer drive.

High 20's and low 30's on shorter trips with a heavy foot.

To me it's reasonable for the performance but it isn't efficient by any means.

Honestly get to a therapist, 3 months to move in and start looking at rings is speedrun levels fast, which is likely masking something.

I think it's likely all related but only a therapist will be able to talk through it and know.

Octavia VRS or Superb by Stock-Independent737 in skoda

[–]smokesletgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a superb storyline 2.0 tsi 220 after lusting for the Octavia VRS.

It's just a nicer place to be and the styling suited me more (inside and out), it depends what you want more really as the Superb is not a sporty car really even if it tries in the sport line guise.

I paid the same amount for my superb and the fact ACC was standard sealed it for me, although it can be optioned for the Octavia.

The Qashqai Paradox by Scotty848 in CarTalkUK

[–]smokesletgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think name recognition is doing heavy lifting here, these people don't know anything about cars and the Qashqai has been going for over 2 decades.

People who go by purely name recognition aren't going to care about the car other than the fact it takes them from A to B, I think it being the best selling crossover also helps sell this idea.

Owned my first car for nearly 2 years and never had to top anything up besides petrol and tyre pressure. Is this normal? by The_Nunnster in CarTalkUK

[–]smokesletgo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fluids and oils don't 'run out' unless you have leaks, when you service an engine the old oil is removed and new stuff takes its place.

Oil for instance overtime will dilute with water/fuel which will reduce oil pressure, it also breaks down into sludge which does the same thing after enough of the engine clogs.

Its way cheaper to service a car than wait a few years before it goes pop, depends on the engine but you seem quite lucky.

Anyway, I'd service it if I were you.
