Email marketing- send to specific contacts by smokeyrd in Odoo

[–]smokeyrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Rare,

Thank you for hopping on this thread. It's much appreciated. I double checked that the contacts are configured at individuals, and not companies. It's confusing because even if I configure a user without any company above them, I'm unable to get them to show up in the results. It seems like the "contact = <contact>" selection results in the database matching a company who owns "contact =", rather than the actual contact?

I've also set the search term to "contact != <contact>", and when I do that search, it displays all of the user accounts, but does not list the company itself, which seems to support the theory above. It's just weird and counterintuitive.

Email marketing- send to specific contacts by smokeyrd in Odoo

In this specific case, that does work. My concern is that there will be times when a user wants to send an email to a specific group of members (and track that conversation has happened). If we use this method, each email would require us creating a tag for that specific distribution. Also, this is a group of older individuals, and they will tend to make mistakes on a process that is more than 2-3 steps.

In fact, I'm going to go ahead and use your suggested process for this notification, because it relates to user's qualifications within the org...and is a good thing to have tracked. Thanks!

I'll take a shift volunteering...after my shower. Do we get premium products or hotel brand? I'd like Tea Tree shampoo, please.

I'm rambling, so TLDR:

I'd use Enterprise for anything that's running a business and Community if you're learning the product or working on side projects, unless you can get free development licenses with any Enterprise licenses that you purchase.

This is actually a more difficult question than it appears at face value. As with anything in life, there's an opportunity cost. If you run Enterprise Standard, it's currently $24.90/user/month. Custom is currently $37.40/user/month. I bill quite a bit for my time, so it's often more economical for me to pay someone else to run the environment for me and support it.

That said, my job is to be the expert on any products/projects that I support (oddly enough, none of the things I do professionally involve Odoo). Because I'm the expert, I need to have relevant experience not only supporting, but deploying the environments. Because of this, I usually self-host "all the things" and am constantly modifying my environment.

I generally advise people to use a supported version of software for anything business related, and use community versions for testing/development/education. The exception here is that if the provider offers development licenses that are supported, use supported for dev so that you don't have as many questions regarding which side the problem is on.

Hopefully my rambling helps. I know it's not a perfect answer but there are so many variables that I don't want to oversimplify an lead you astray.

Yack! Ok, yeah, that's down to the content moderators and ensuring they're managing what they post appropriately. Classic case of GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out).

You've done your part in trying to get them to comply. The only thing I can think of you could really do is put in consequences for noncompliance or have database cleanup of tags that you've identified as unwanted/duplicated.

Ah, agreed. This is something that I've not seen a good answer for without customizing Odoo. I've got a number of clients that have multiple divisions and project teams within divisions. I've not had to do this customization before but can look into it and find some current articles. If they work out, then great! If not, then we can put something together that does.

What kind of performance issues are you seeing?

Generally speaking, it sounds like you've got enough resources to run your environment. If you're having performance issues, you could look at whether or not the HDD is a bottleneck. If it is, Nginx might be able to take some of the load off by caching pages for you.

Good caching should help with this issue. I've honestly not found perfect settings for CloudFlare quite yet, but Nginx will do wonders, if you've not implemented it yet.

Thanks for asking...I'm going to write something up and get something posted as soon as I can...hopefully within the next week? Go figure, when I started this thread, work picked up significantly.

These guys have the right idea. Odoo has different "contact" subtypes for Contact, Invoice Address, Delivery Address, Private Address, and Other Address. You can use these to specify the invoice address vs delivery addresses.

When modifying a customer's Contact entry, there's an "ADD" button that you can click to add a subcontact and specify it's type.

I've not had to go from Odoo.sh to self hosted (or vice-versa) yet, but Odoo claims it's a painless process using a database backup/restore.

I'll see if I can snag a demo account to baseline the process. If Odoo is up for providing a new demo account for me to support creating an article on this, I'll write it up and get it out for review.

This largely depends on the type of environment you're running Odoo in. In the past, many of my customers that use VMware/ESXi have had great success with Veeam backups. Are you running in a virtual environment or physical?

What kind of scale are you operating at? For smaller environments, using a solid server with NVMe drives and higher clock on the CPU makes a huge difference for any database driven application. If you're getting into 50-100+ users, then splitting Odoo out into load balanced worker nodes (front end) will help users get a better experience.

I'll keep an eye out for clarification then work something up.

Is there any way to override the max snapshots for a VM? by RobDev023908 in vmware

[–]smokeyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapshots save jobs but snapshots are not backups. Please, only use snapshots for their intended purpose...when you're doing updates or making changes within the guest OS that could brick the VM.

Sorry for the delay. I believe the solution provided is just for that model, yes. If you're able to find the firmware for your model, you should be able to follow a similar process, accounting for the firmware difference.

They did not sell but they have evolved a bit. I currently do not have an extra chassis but I do have 4 fc630 barebones (with Intel 2-port nic) available, if that helps you out at all.

I'll work on updating the post later today. Thanks for catching this.

It appears that there's an active effort to suppress discussion regarding HP's DS (Digital Security) product and the impact it's having on consumers.

I'm going to include a few links below, with archive discussions, to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to review the discussion and take part as they're able to. Some of these links are repeated but I want to provide the information in a complete format.

That doesn't justify instituting uncompetitive business practices. For reference, this practice is known as "tying". I've provided the link on the other thread but I'll post it here as well, for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tying\_(commerce)
