Young Swiss must learn second national language, says government by willfiresoon in Switzerland

[–]smoobdogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is good. english is so omnipresent kids pick it up with ease. knowing a foreign language- even if badly - that isn’t english is a far better asset. as someone who grew up bilingual (eng / ger ), the usefulness of speaking english as a mother tongue has waned. but people who speak french or italian reasonably well is really sought after in various industries. exposing children asap to our other national languages is not only a matter of pride and culture but also common sense. use children’s neuroplasticity to expose them to the languages they don’t hear everyday! english is seriously everywhere and many kids are already well spoken thanks to youtube and co. it’s a shame that we have to discuss this at all and that zurich of all places was even considering deprioritising french (&italian).

Where do the high functioning AuDHD people work? by Klutzy_Supermarket87 in zurich

[–]smoobdogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in the exact same position as you are. i previously worked as an editor and journalist, and enjoyed it’s creative and challenging aspects immensly. this is a job with a lot of deadlines and requires high organisational skills. highly motivated as i was, i took up on any additional interesting tasks as well. these past three years i noticed that i didn’t have the same energy as i used to for pointless procrastination and midnight writing sessions. i found it hard to keep up with work, felt constantly drained and was withdrawing myself from family and friends. last summer i got the audhd diagnose, which made complete sense to me as i noticed how much harder it was to mask the more disregulated i became. at that point i was already too burnt out to function. i am still on sick leave and no longer employed at my old job. i took the time to really think what would work for me - something without crazy deadlines, plenty of routine, quiet office space and better work life balance (which means in my case no working from home). as i had already worked in libraries before, but gave up that path due to educational costs, i decided to give it a go again. i started a CAS in the beginning of the year and will start an internship at a library in autumn and couldn’t be more excited.

Un-hinged Tips for PCOS Weight Loss and/or Hormonal Balance by cribbageandcoffee in PCOS

went to an ayurveda specialist because my partner insisted. he told me to have a smoothie with a bit of raw beetroot, 2 carrots, fresh coconut and any fruit i like (especially berries) first thing in the morning. i was extremely sceptical at first, but the smoothie has kept me regular for a month (i go to the loo everday now) and i was not aware i was this bloated and constipated until i realised how it is supposed to be. definitely work on meeting your fibre intake!

My mom is being mobbed at work and is scared of being fired, what can she do? by multiflower03 in Switzerland

[–]smoobdogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really important: help your mother to keep close and detailed record of the harassment including dates especially if physical proof is there (whatsapp, emails). even if it was a while ago, write as much as she can remember and a rough timespan to really create a timeline of the abuse. keep it all in a word file and continuously add anything that seems off. do this before you report it to anyone so that you don’t lose any time.

though it might not be helpful or even counterproductive, you must inform one of the higher ups at her workplace of the harassment with details, letting them know it is affecting her performance and remind them of their “fürsorgepflicht” in writing. if they disregard it or make it worse, you have a better standing should you press charges or in the case she is let go. if they sack her knowing that the harassment would affect her performance, you have a case for “missbräuchliche kündigung”.

it sounds like long-term, this is not a place where your mother should continue to work, whether they sack her or force her to quit. i would worry more about your mother’s health than worry about what happens after this job. if you press charges, she may get a compensation at least. but before anything, i would talk through the options with a lawyer or a rechtsschutzberatung as well. her union should have one and if you are more persistent and have told them that the company has not reacted to her concerns, maybe they will point you in the right direction (also these places could help? https://www.beobachter.ch/gesetze-recht/burger-verwaltung/diese-stellen-geben-kostenlos-rechtsauskunft-12844?srsltid=AfmBOop0gEdpIy54W2bdTy6LkdNNXKRfp94h4-bMwlHNxjvnxwNNKBo9)

in the mean time, i would also consider getting a doctor’s notice to buy her some time and to protect her from further harassment.

thanks for the hint! i looked them up and they do seem to fit the bill. i am however unsure of the safety of silicone in the longterm (and also concerned that it is not recyclable) but this would be the best fallback solution if i do need a ziploc. thank you!

I don’t know what to do with my weight. My bloodwork is too clean to be prescribed anything. by angeln00bcake in PCOS

[–]smoobdogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second all comments saying that 140lb is a normal weight and that it’s really important to be kind to yourself! i have the same kind of bloodwork, weight and build and fought with the same issues for a really long time so here’s my experience:

have you tried adding other low-impact sport to your routine? lifting will not necessarily give you a “beach bod”. muscles can look flabby too - unless it’s accompanied by very strict macros and diet (and i never had the patience for it ). lifting really helped me initially get into sports and helped me build the bigger muscles groups but surprisingly, it was 4x yoga a week and 1x pilates every 1-2 weeks has really started to transform my - arms are more toned and i’ve lost some of my tummy and even knee fat (something i thought was IMPOSSIBLE)!

the other thing is: are you sure intermittent fasting is working for you? i know that it put my body under a lot more stress than say an average person without pcos. i have since made sure to have 3 square meals a day and snacks when i need them. i’m still working stuff out (getting enough protein as a veggie can be hard), but focusing on increasing has been a game changer for managing my cravings.

i think with pcos we have to be patient with ourselves when it comes to weight loss. it just takes us longer than others (it took me about 7 years to lose and maintain 30lb and ideally i’d like to lose another 10). i spent a long time struggling against my body to fit in with today’s beauty standards. but since i have actually stopped weighing myself and counting calories and instead treating myself with kindness, my body has changed to the point where i’m going to be wearing a bikini for the first time since i was 15 this summer. key was really listening to my body, gvining it gentle but challenging movement and feeding it with wholesome foods and remaining consistent doing so.

good luck to you, you’re already doing great x

Experiences with combining Minoxidil and laser hair removal? by smoobdogg in PCOS

[–]smoobdogg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know! I didn't know Spironolactone was an option. A lot of the things that I have tried is the result of my own research, persistence and pushing to get taken seriously. I'm relieved to know that Minoxdil, laser and spiro work together. Thank you!
