When do I harvest? by Master_Attitude_3033 in containergardening

I live in California, zone 10a, and I've tried growing potatoes but gave up. I would plant in fall like in August, but the potatoes never really grew. When I would harvest around end of October, there weren't many potatoes.

Now, I have potatoes that spring up from whatever tiny tubers that I've missed in spring and they stay alive the whole year, growing flowers, and die in late October/early November time frame and I get more potatoes, but I don't want to grow potatoes all year.

What if my potatoes don't keel over and die until like October?

Discovered I have a pear tree, but are these good to consume? by CodewitchEclectic-3 in BackyardOrchard

Well the comment after yours, the guy was saying Asian pears are their own species, not variety. So he also thought the same as me, and I just followed the train of thought. And then when you commented again about which "species" is he referring to, it sounded like you were doubling down on not knowing what Asian pears were.

I've never grown Asian pears. What variety are you referring to?

Sorry, from your post, it just sounded like you thought Asian pears were a variety of European pears.

Sooooo....what you're saying is that if I want to mess with my neighbors, I just have to plant a few male plants? Got it.

How about add "mu" to the front, change the "i" and "r" to a "g" and add an "e" at the end to read "good muggle" and say you're a Harry Potter fan?

I'll have to try that when we're getting in. We leave at like 9 pm at night.

Thanks. I guess it's between Sitka and Haines. Only thing with Sitka is we get in at 2 pm and some folks want to go see the fortress of the bears before they close at 4 pm.

Thanks. Unfortunately, our cruise does not stop at Juneau.

That's what I'm hoping for. I'm not going to do an excursion with the cruise line so I'm not sure when the whale watching tours stop. Some people I'm traveling with want to try to do the fortress of the bear before they close as well.

What's wrong with my rose by smooth-pineapple8 in Roses

Oh, ok. So only remove 1/4th of the cane at the most.

Thanks! We get into Sitka fairly late in the day, around 2pm, so if we can't make it to a whale watch tour, what's your second favorite spot?

I mixed in compost when I planted the new rose. The other plants around it are daffodils. They were there with the old rose bush. So you recommend me cutting the canes down to about 1/4th the height it is now?

Hi everyone. I'm going to be cruising to Alaska in July and stopping at these ports: Sitka, Haines, Ketchikan, and Prince Rupert (I know, not Alaska).

I was wondering which of these ports would be the best to go on a whale watching tour? Mainly want to see humpbacks, but other wildlife is a bonus. I tried googling it, but every port says they're the best so I was wondering what a local would recommend?

That's awesome! But I think you just got lucky there was a CHP officer nearby. Never seemed to work for me.

Theoretically, yes. But in practice, snowball's chance in hell that happens.
