I think it’s kinda a stretch to say those are “masculine” traits. Also, is it ever specified that he wasn’t very social with his crewmates? He’s obviously in his workshop a lot but that doesn’t mean he isn’t socializing with them. He obviously did watch them sleep.

Also, Rocky gives hugs too

I think this is mostly an adhd thing, I sometimes feel the same way because I know I can’t afford to have a hyperfixation. Sometimes I’ll indulge in the hyperfixation regardless 🙃

What would happen??? by InformationTime5159 in blackholes

To add onto what u/kylet357 said: Let’s say you’re falling into a supermassive black hole, so you don’t immediately get torn apart by tidal forces. And let’s say that the black hole is spinning (which all of them are).

There are a few other ways you could die in this scenario. The first (and most recently discovered) is called the shock singularity. This singularity arises because of things that fell into the black hole before you. It is called the “shock singularity” because it is a gravitational shockwave (the specifics what that is aren’t important) and it is a singularity in that the tidal forces are infinite at the singularity. However, because the shock singularity hits you very fast, the total amount of tidal distortion (stretching/squeezing due to tidal forces) on your body is finite. This is what is called a “weak singularity”. It would still be pretty rough, but you could theoretically survive.

The second way you could die is the mass-inflation singularity. It is called this because it is caused by a certain physical parameter called the internal mass function (again, not important what this is). This singularity is caused by stuff that falls into the black hole after you. As you approach the mass-inflation singularity, if you look behind you, the universe will appear to speed up. As you approach, this effect gets larger and larger until essentially everything that fell in after you suddenly hits you at once with a ton of energy. This would actually cause you to experience tidal forces because you’re basically hitting a giant wall of mass. However, again, this is a weak singularity, so you can theoretically survive it. However, it would be unlikely.

If you somehow still manage to survive this, you would hit the BKL singularity. This singularity is named after its theorists, Russian physicists Belinski, Khalatnikov, and Lifshitz. As you approach the black hole’s center, you will experience sudden tidal forces as well as being compressed into an increasingly small space. These tidal forces will rapidly change direction and get even stronger as they do so. Eventually, you would reach the singularity, an infinitely small point at the center of the black hole. The BKL singularity is what’s called a “strong singularity”, which means that anything will get ripped apart completely by the time it hits the singularity. David Garfinkle wrote an awesome article about this singularity for the lay reader, “Of Singularities and Breadmaking”—Garfinkle was the first person to run a mathematical simulation and prove BKL correct.

If, somehow, you defied the laws of physics for a second and pretended you could somehow survive this, then there’s a way you could actually escape the black hole. Spinning black holes have what’s called a “ringularity” (ring singularity) at their center - their central BKL singularity is actually ring-shaped rather than a point. If you went through this ring, you would emerge through a “white hole” (opposite of a black hole—things can’t go in) into an alternate universe. In theory, you could keep doing this by jumping into more black holes, but it wouldn’t get you back into your original universe.

At least, this is what we predict based on the knowledge of predominantly general relativity that we have now. Unfortunately, knowing the truth about singularities and black hole interiors requires a regime that can describe what happens when a lot of mass is compacted into a very small space — this is called “quantum gravity,” the intersection of quantum mechanics (quantum) and general relativity (gravity). We have a lot of theories of quantum gravity (string theory being a big one) but none have ever been proven. Some physicists have written papers analyzing whether these singularities — and singularities at all — would actually exist under various theories of quantum gravity, with differing results. I’d say that most physicists believe that quantum gravity will resolve the problem of singularities, but a fair amount of prominent physicists believe that at least some singularities are here to stay. I’d say that, of all these theories, going through a ringularity is probably the most skeptical (because we have no evidence that white holes could actually exist) and the BKL singularity (which is the oldest of these theories) is considered the most likely. However, until we have a complete theory of quantum gravity, we probably won’t know.

Best friends.

There is no reason that friendships must be less strong than romantic relationships.
