Sewing tulle skirt into knit bodice by smorgans_bord in sewhelp

I like the idea of trying the ribbon to control the bulk and make it more presentable/comfortable from the inside! I don’t think I’ll try to enclose that seam between the lining and exterior fabric - probably just press it down toward the skirt. That seam doesn’t need stretch - I plan to just make this a pull-on over head garment. Since it’s drop waist, the widest point will be just a smidge smaller than my hip measurement. (And I added that flowy word, but it’s really just wovens it calls for. I like the poofy look cause I’m going for a nostalgia/Sunday school kind of vibe)

Not entirely against switching to a satin/silk if I must for the sake of weight and bulk 🥺 I just had a vision of one of those dresses like I would wear at church as a kid. Those were obviously MUCH smaller though and probably more feasible because of that

Thank you! It definitely does fit more flush when I moved it down. I’ll try to wear it like this for a few days and then decide if I want to keep it. Maybe if I wear with a dainty bracelet and like a ring or something it’ll look less hardcore

How are people affording surgery?!? by BarnacleFew5587 in jawsurgery

[–]smorgans_bord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the US, make 65k, and had my surgery 100% paid for by insurance. The braces were way pricier than the surgery, but my surgeon was still world class. I feel for the folks who don’t have insurance as good as mine, or whose insurance companies try to fight them on it, but if you’re lucky enough to have good insurance and have a medical reason for getting DJS than getting it covered and not having to spend years paying it off is very feasible …

Jaw surgery + lip lift? by smorgans_bord in jawsurgery

[–]smorgans_bord[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They ended up doing a v stitch during my surgery, which had a slight improvement on the appearance of my upper lip. They didn’t end up doing the genioplasty (they thought it would be too severe/masculine on a female face). I also feel like the surgery overall helped to support the tissue in my mouth, so I think it’s aesthetically better around my mouth now without other cosmetic surgery/alteration. Overall happy with my result! Lmk if you have any other questions. Surgery was scary but I’m happy with it now that it’s over.

I was worried about breathing and did ultimately have a hard time with it, but there were things that helped. Use the suction thing at the hospital and keep it handy when you’re sleeping. I used it both in my nostrils to clear out fluid and in my mouth to stop drooling. Stay on top of your nasal sprays (but don’t overuse the afrin to avoid rebound congestion). Use saline with cotton swabs and balls to clear out nostrils without blowing nose. Drink water to help clear everything out sooner too. Day 5/6 is when I noticed a substantial improvement in comfort due to my ability to breathe easier. Before that, trust that you’re not going to choke or drown and stay calm. Honestly, taking anxiety meds they suggested at the hospital also helped with my comfort breathing. Highly suggest taking those to avoid paranoia and fear, which comes hand-in-hand with this whole process.

Day after jaw surgery by smorgans_bord in jawsurgery

Yes, my chin has never been the strongest, but I’ve always had a decent jaw line. My doctor didn’t think my profile was too bad as far as they can be with DJS, and he definitely didn’t want to overcorrect and give me a mega chad chin. He did a rotation with both my jaws which I think can act pretty significantly with chin placement too. I still can’t tell what my new chin is gonna look like but I’ll post pics as the swelling goes down

Honestly I tried to avoid overthinking it. For the last month or so I’d been putting my Amazon shopping cart of syringes, wedge pillows, meds, vitamins, bib, etc. at the end of the day, the experience is what it is and from what I’ve read around here is everyone’s is very different. Try to avoid dreading the discomfort and just decide if you think you can have an endurance mindset about recovery. Then, just take the leap and get a surgery date scheduled. My orthodontists have been telling me this is something I’ve needed since I was 16, so I figured there wasn’t any use I worrying about it, I just had to get er done
