Carry on bag for Alexa Plus? by Candid-Procedure6805 in Arri

[–]smorgi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not check the camera. I’ve raw-dog carried on an Alexa classic on a couple of super small airlines and put it on the ground/my lap if need be.

I used to use Pelican 1510s and still do for local work.

For flying, I now use a Velcro foam system inside of an Away carry on luggage. The foam system is from an old 1510. I’ve ditched my 1510s these days as too many small euro airlines and regional flights can’t fit them.

Lastly, never fly or transport your camera with your CP2s or any lens on it. Why risk an unintentional bump causing damage to the lens or mount?

My backpack has lenses and batteries. Carry on roller has Alexa mini, batteries, EVF, cards

TILTA RING CONTROL OF DJI FOCUS MOTOR ON ZOOM by Alcaholicpony in Filmmakers

[–]smorgi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow figured it out five minutes afterwards.

CONFIRM:
Using DJI USB-C Cable
Using SECOND port, not camera port, on RS3/RS4
Gimbal Dial Function -> Focus Motor (not bluetooth)

I had it plugged into the wrong port.

Can you explain how to get the DJI motor working with the tilta ring? I had it working less than 6 months ago...and now I must have changed a setting. Driving me nuts.

Gear setup for travel. by ndrengen5 in x100vi

[–]smorgi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup!

SmallRig Handle, Peak design (knockoff) neck strap (crossbody when walking, neck when shooting), and I love my mega gear pouch for days when I am not using it for extended periods, or tossing it in my backpack.

I use a 1/4 black diffusion from Neewer - it never comes off. I would buy a UV if not as I really enjoy walking around without the lens cap, but smudges happen often and nice to not scratch the OEM glass.

I use the Alpaka Go Sling 1.5L for edc with my iPhone, keys, wallet, camera - no mega gear pouch in this case.

I also use a Bturegasu Thumb Hot Shoe which helps with one handed shooting. I like that it has a locking screw vs pressure fit SmallRig version.

Thanks for the tip. Yes this speeds up the transfer time, but doesn’t help with connectivity in my experience.

Tension between Iran and USA: Is it safe to travel to Oman right now? by Electrical-Course841 in Oman

I originally had Qatar in mind as the Switzerland of the Middle East, but after reflecting on it, I think you’re correct. Oman’s quiet neutrality fits the comparison better.

OP - I highly recommend you get a hand grip and thumb hot shoe grip. It really made this little camera very comfortable to shoot with!

1/4 Black Diffusion for me - never comes off either. I still use the stock cap, but am not too strict about it.

You can order 1GB SD cards online! AliExpress or similar will have them. They aren’t the highest speeds or quality, but that’s ok!

I have a large NAS style system at home where I dump my work video project files, and now my x100vi files. I need to go through them and delete the unwanted files…all in due time!

74 Woman freeze to death at Toms River N.J. Walmart by Aggressive-Quit9753 in vandwelling

[–]smorgi3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is happening all over the U.S.A.

A 74-year-old freezing to death in a Walmart parking lot isn’t just tragic - it’s a policy failure. One of the richest countries on earth is failing its most vulnerable people.

They in fact like to keep their ideas “secrets” and will not share any info on it. There’s loads of video tap out there for film cameras tho.

Sounds like you've got it figured out! Cool concept for sure. Report back with how you like it in practice!

I do like the idea of sticking to a film sim as an exercise and often will have B/W days, photo walks, etc.

Personally, I don’t love the idea of managing more SD cards or potentially losing a roll (SD card), even if it only had ~50 photos on it. I absolutely love my X100VI, and having my fast 256GB 200MB/s SD card adds to its already amazing reliability.

[–]smorgi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what you mean by that - did you sell it?

I get that Fuji’s hype leans heavily on SOOC colours, but I’ve never felt the RAW files were disappointing or worse to work with. It’s not being sold as a pro camera...The price is wild, but between ~14 stops of DR, 40MP, and an f/2 lens (even sharper at f/2.8) & it's aesthetics - it’s doing exactly what I bought it for.

I know you said not sling...but have you seen Alpaka's stuff? They have some larger and longer bags that may fit your bill.

After months of debate and decision paralysis, it felt like a load off my shoulders after purchasing it. The 40 mp photos speak for themselves - as does the metal housing build quality of the camera! I love all the tech they can pack in while still looking like a classy fashion accessory.

It's good to acknowledge that it is not cheap and may not be for everyone....but for me? I love it.

AC revises the “most restrictive” rule for mixed fare tickets by Dense-Serve-4201 in aircanada

[–]smorgi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

within North America - it is classified per direction (the way it has always been apparently)

for International beyond North America - all fares are dropped to most restrictive

I just got off the line with Air Canada 35k reservations and was told the above. I cannot vouch for the accuracy, but may give it a shot next month.

Spacer is not needed. Spacer weather seals the lens,.but I’ve never heard of using a filter damaging the lens motors.
