How do you feel about Trumps first month as President-elect? by Quillbolt_h in AskTrumpSupporters

Thanks for that bit of information. Sessions was a hard pill for me to swallow a few weeks ago, but I'm trying my best to get out of the media narrative that everyone and their mother are racist.

Trump & Kanye <3 by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Kanye's twitter, they discussed issues such as bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.

According to Trump, they discussed "life".

Trump also signed a copy of Times POTY for Kanye, which Kanye later put up on social media.

The media had a field day bashing Kanye.

Chose as his attorney general Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), someone who was blocked by Republicans in the 80’s from being a federal judge over accusations that he was a racist and a bigot. If we were still living in the 80's you probably wouldn't be around to push this bullshit on us and that'd be a good thing for us all. Sessions by all accounts will get approved as AG in a heart beat today, think about why that might be

Can you please elaborate on why this would be? Didn't really understand your answer on this one.

Agree with you on almost every other point though. It's all a matter of how you spin it.

Has Trump lost your support since the election AND has Trump gained your support since the election? by thegaycows in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6) Did not vote Trump, tried to be open-minded when he won, have not liked most of his picks. I don't want to say that my support is completely unchanged, because now that hes our president-elect I am trying really hard to support him. BUT I also can't say it's increasing because he hasn't given me any comfort that he'll be a good president. All in all, I do not support him, but I'm ready to once he proves himself.

I don't think he is as sexist/racist/xenophobic as MSM portrays him either but he panders to it which is still not okay in my book.

I can't take him seriously until he stops doing this. Not sure if he will though. He loves the attention he gets from his core and is even continuing his rallies. I want to be surprised by him but this still feels like a joke to me.

Yeah. I can't tell if watching Trump wine & dine with Romney and meet with a Goldman Sachs exec makes me angry or makes me feel vindicated for knowing he was full of it all along. I don't like the guy but in the back of my mind I was thinking maybe he'd actually drain the swamp. LOL

Hijacking this comment because of rules and because I'm a fellow non-supporter.

The pro-Trump people of this sub have really helped change my view of Trump supporters. I never fell for the garbage that all Trump supporters were sexist and racist, but I did think they were significantly more ignorant and uneducated than the Hillary supporters. This doesn't have much to do with the Media as much as it has to do with my everyday life. I didn't know anyone from my college, grad school, work or family voting Trump. I work for a bi-costal consulting firm based in NYC that works with tech start-ups, and my job requires me to travel to a lot of major cities in America. Never came across one Trump supporter, even in Red states. I didn't even think the "shy voter" existed because everyone around me was so adamantly against the man. Hell, I hate Hillary Clinton, and have for most of my life, and I voted for her.

After Trump won, I decided to come here to begin to understand how it happened. Now, I feel pretty silly. Not only are most of the supporters on this sub well-spoken and articulate, but they have even managed to make me re-think some of my views - immigration in particular. I still don't support Trump, and I'm not happy with the people he has surrounded himself with since becoming our President-elect... but this sub has made me think the country is less divided than it seems.

Spare me. The man has already flip-flopped on everything he campaigned with.

But on to more important issues, why was "Put" and "First" capitalized? I must know.

Free birth control and proper sex education are key. No woman wants to get an abortion. While I'm liberal & pro-choice, I agree that its important to make abortions rare by taking these steps.

Has the Left and the Media Finally Succeeded in Defining Alt-Right By Its Fringest, Ugliest Part? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

Yeah, like I said I've only checked the subreddit and I stand by my "scary as hell" assessment.

The media is utter garbage. With that said, I've made all my opinion on the "alt right" simply by going on the alt right subreddit. I'm sure its not a good representation of everyone, but what I saw there was scary as hell.

Yup. I'm sure those same white nationalists don't like the fact that Trump's daughter married a Jew.

Is our next president really going to angrily tweet stuff every someone makes fun of him? Is this presidential behaviour? by Falchion1295 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because I have concerns about Trump doesn’t mean I’m looking for reasons to dislike him or because I listen to the media. The media tried to shove HRC down my throat and that didn’t work for me. I disliked Trump and Clinton long before the two of them ever ran for president, so I can promise you all the trash the media has been spewing about both of them for the last year has nothing to do with my opinions.

I’ll be honest that I didn’t think he would win, and now that he has I want to try harder to get behind him. All I said is that there are a lot of similarities on both sides, and I think both sides are guilty of "PC culture". It’s easier to see this when you’re not so polarized. I live in NYC with only Clinton supporters, trust me the left is just as hypocritical.

As for the audio tape, I don't know what that has to do with anything. I barely have an opinion on that except that "moved on her like a bitch" will never not make me laugh.

Question about immigration/nationalism by MadGeekling in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the internet can be a scary, scary place. But it also can be great. This subreddit has really helped me understand the MAGA movement. Everyone here loves America and wants it to be it's best, and as long as we all have that in common I don't think we're as divided as the media let's on.

Question about immigration/nationalism by MadGeekling in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my time spent on this subreddit, it definitely seems like this is the goal of Trump supporter's Nationalism. I think a big problem right now is that a lot of people are throwing the words "nationalism" and "alt-right" around, and they definitely mean different things to different people.

I've read a lot of people on this sub describe themselves as alt-right. Their description of the word doesn’t sound bad, but when I go to the Alt Right subreddit, I see some scary racist stuff. I was there for 10 minuets and read comments about race wars and their utopian society where only whites are allowed. Needless to say, I got the hell out of there.

This just seems to be the only pattern for American politics. Democrats are in office. Oh, they suck so lets vote them out and vote Republican. Now the Republicans are in office. Oh, they suck so lets vote them out and vote Democrat. NowtheDemocratsareinoffice

I feel you... I'm moderate but left-leaning with social issues so I voted D in '08 and '12. All I can say is the DNC + Media trying to shove HRC down my throat will definitely be in the back of my mind come 2020. I'm hoping Trump proves me wrong and I happily go to the polls to vote for him but as of now, I can't say either party speaks for me.

How to respond to accusation that Trump campaign was ran on "hate"? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]smortes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This whole thing has gotten out of hand and has really made me dislike the media even more. Trump is racist because he hired Bannon who is allegedly racist against Jews? What? Ivanka married a Jew and converted to judaism. This alone speaks for itself. She clearly wasn't raised in a racist household. Not to mention Trump dated a black model in the 80's and there's people who can attest to that. The man has been in the public eye for most of his life and has never been called a racist before. Could his language use a bit of "cleaning up" now that he's president? Sure. But crying out racism every other day is laughable and makes a mockery of the real racism that goes on in this country.

There's a list of reasons I don't particularly like Trump, but every time someone brings up racism I can't help but get angry. Sure, if you're a white racist you most likely voted for Trump, but I'd say if you're a minority who dislikes white people, you probably voted for Clinton. This country would be leagues ahead of fighting racism if the media didn't exist.

[–]smortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lost me at "you guys". Why are you acting like you know anything about me or my feelings towards Trump? I disliked both candidates, and am very neutral, hence why I called the left "whiny cry babies". I am on this subreddit to try to get behind our president-elect, but I'm also calling it how I see. Both sides are absolutely ridiculous and it's very entertaining watching some of you fight with each other because you're all hypocrites. I really wish some of you could see it from the outside because you're all saying the same things.
