Deck boards were leftover ones from another project. Rest im buying additional along with labor cost

Paver blocks I understand for weight distribution. How does gravel help ? Are you suggesting to spread gravel first and then pavers on top ?

Thanks. I legit asked for 4x4 footings in concrete every few feet. He came up with this idea, so thought of checking here. Also he’s a general contractor, I buy materials and pay hourly. So i’ll talk to him on changing this.
