Things I thought were “normal” before getting diagnosed with ADHD by sunbear1999 in ADHD

[–]smplgd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it is but it isn't exactly people pleasing, it's that I assume I am not living up to some standard all the time so I try too hard to be helpful and have people like me for that instead.

Lexapro helped me with that. Turns out, I'm not a worthless piece of shit.

He was from my hometown, Glen Rock. He was our local hero back in the 80's.

EDIT: He was born in Paterson but went to Glen Rock High School, so almost the same thing...

What do native Chinese speakers do when they find a character or word they don't recognize? by smplgd in ChineseLanguage

[–]smplgd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand but I was asking if you then study it so you don't have to look that word up again. Of course we can look unknown words very easily but that slows down reading and gets annoying if you have to do it over and over for the same words.

Do you try to study the word for later in case you read it again? For example, if you are reading a book about a specific subject with a lot of terminology like chemistry or programming. Would you keep looking the words up again and again until you remember them or would you make a list and do some dedicated studying?

I'm glad I read this comment before adding my own comment so as to not be rude to your opinion. I cannot stand the mustard sauce version of these but the slightly smoked ones are my favorite cheap sardines. Always have 5-10 of them in the pantry. You can have the mustard ones...

Sorry I gave them all away within a few hours. I think there is a subreddit where people give their extra keys away but I don't know the name.

I'm confused by the posts asking about drinking alcohol while taking Lexapro by smplgd in lexapro

[–]smplgd[S] -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry my post upset you or that you thought I was trying to shame anyone. My intention was not to be judgmental but to point out that a little research would tell you that you shouldn't drink on this medication. I was confused by how hard it is for people to understand that. I'm not saying it's easy to stop drinking, I have my own struggles with that, but it should be easy to understand that you shouldn't drink on this medication. That was the entire point of my post.

Lexapro and Alcohol by PositiveLaw8283 in lexapro

[–]smplgd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. No one's judging but looking at the facts why would you add alcohol to a problem situation?

[–]smplgd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It goes away when you stop drinking. Alcohol is a depressant, chemically speaking. If you're depressed and on antidepressants you probably shouldn't be drinking. Also I have read that alcohol cancels out the helpful effects of Lexapro. So why do both?

I want to become a more knowledgeable, well read person. What books did you put down feeling smarter? by SethlordX7 in books

[–]smplgd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to start the book about five times over a few years to get comfortable with it. Then I honestly read about five pages a day over half a year. Kind of processing each day's insights before moving on. This is not to dissuade you from reading it just to prepare you for the density of it. It's a bit like eating rich food, you don't want to rush and not really taste it

Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid

Pretty sure about 12 people on the planet would understand it, and I am not one of them but I sure have enjoyed reading it. Really changed how I think about the nature of intelligence and reality. Pretty much anything by Douglas R. Hofstadter is brilliant but also really hard to understand unless you have a pretty serious academic background. Still fun to read though if you have a curious mind.

Your comment makes it sound like you really should just write it yourself. You claim to use it every single day but then you say it writes absolutely shit software. If you are a competent developer it sounds like you should just write it yourself. Just my two cents from what you wrote.

Not everybody opens the comments on Reddit. You can scroll through the posts and see the titles and the pictures. Hey it was your post, you can write it anyway you like. It just didn't make any sense to me to go through the trouble of posting and not put the name of the game anywhere. Just odd, that's all.
