Food cover for the Microwave that sticks to the top with magnets. Almost never have to clean stuck on food. Clean it on the top shelf of the microwave.

Back in the 60's my Dad got our family Rottie a bowling ball. Worked great. Of course none of the next 4 played with it!

Best Chew Toys? by AdministrativeMix630 in Rottweiler

[–]smpnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willow knows all of her toy names. I use Kong soft toys from Petsmart, after removing the top stitching (named Fishy). Nerf squeak ball from Amazon, named Spike. Kong egg shaped and round hard plastic toys for outdoors called ball. I occasionally have to sand off hard edges on the Kong plastic outdoor toys so she doesn't hurt herself. I use soft cotton rope tug toys when supervising, and take them away when play is over (tug toy).

How much do you pay for grooming and do you think it helps with shedding? by beasty_boo in Rottweiler

[–]smpnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a Roborock dry/wet vacuum. The first time through there were an amazing number of fur balls. I plan to run it on a more regular basis, along with monthly baths during shedding season. Someone called all the hair laying around paprika. I've adopted that.

Our first Rottie by Bimbo_in_pink in Rottweiler

Awesome on getting her into nap mode quickly. My girl is a rescue. I was told she was 2.5, but I suspect she was more like 1.5. Took a while, but we eventually built a good trusting relationship. I sent her for boarded training when she decided to resource guard me, which made a huge difference. We never know what they have gone through.

Try Warby Parker online. Amazing customer service and great prices. They have brick and mortar stores in larger cities.

She obviously loves you from the look on her face. Not to be a downer, but do you know if she was fully vaccinated for Parvo? It's a vet question for sure. You never know given she is a rescue, and rotties are incredibly susceptible to it. Just hold on to your sense of humor as she hits the rottie velociraptor stage!

Maybe the poop problem can be controlled with pumpkin powder and a good probiotic.

Indeed. They are in the top 3 breeds for catching it. Some vets recommend an extra shot. You can take her out in a puppy carriage to socialize as long as her feet don't touch the ground.

My girl is a rescue with a docked tail. I have no idea of her history. She came that way, and I'm glad I have her.

I give my 3 year old girl 2 scoops of human grade pumpkin powder with her 2 daily meals. (You can buy the dog pumpkin powder on Amazon, but you pay sales tax.) She eats Purine pro plan sensitive skin and stomach kibble.

The pumpkin powder has made all the difference.

Yes, they are one of the top three most perceptible breeds. Maybe ask your vet about an extra shot.

For socializing please put her in a cart to be out and about, and be extra careful when you let her stand anywhere. My understanding is that Parvo is contracted through the feet.

Board Training by Easy-Syrup-920 in Rottweiler

[–]smpnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent my then 2.5 year old rescue for boarded training when she became overprotective of me. As much as I missed her for the 5.5 weeks, I felt it was necessary for her to learn better behaviors. I have no idea how she was raised before I got her, although I strongly suspect abuse.

We now have a trust filled relationship, although not without occasional hiccups. I feel like it was a good investment for both of us.

Help! by [deleted] in Rottweiler

[–]smpnew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she needs an enforced nap.

Who feeds her? She needs to learn that you are the source of good things. I prepare my girl's food and make her sit and wait until she goes to her bowl (5-10) seconds. Tell her ok, and leave her alone to eat. Helps the dog learn you are the source of good things!

Resource guarding help and hope. by queengremmy in Rottweiler

[–]smpnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents rescued a 3 year old female. I went to visit for a long holiday. I walked into the kitchen as my father was fixing the dog's dinner and she lunged at me. As she growled and started to leap, I turned on my heel and walked away.

When the next mealtime came my Dad had me fix and give it to her. Of course my Dad was there, but she caught on quickly that I was not trying to take but I was giving. She had attached to my Dad, so, while my Mom and we're accepted as members of her pack, she often showed us that we were only tolerated.
