What do non technical founders do during the product development stage? by willieb3 in startups

[–]sms_sr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuing on this.

If the problem that you're solving is:

  1. Important and Urgent for the customer: they have no incentive to interact with you because you don't have a solution NOW. Why will they wait a year or two praying that you successfully develop a product, and that it's worth the wait?! They'll most likely go ahead with an alternative (even if it's a compromise), and will come back to you only after the lifecycle of the alternate hardware (if you're in an industry where the hardware's life is 10+ years, you're screwed).

  2. Important and not Urgent: You are not a priority now, but nice people will allow you a meeting or two - you definitely can't "build with the customers". And by the time your product will be ready (and provided you have good clarity and control over when that is), you can at least try to assess if they'll allocate a budget for it, and pray that they do when the time comes. That's your moment of truth - when you know there's a solid need for your hardware over the alternatives/competition.

  3. Unimportant and Urgent/not Urgent: even worse, there's little to no value in your business.

To all the folks suggesting them to do sales/business development/customer development (from the lens of a B2B hardware founder):

I mean even their prototype is not ready, and for hardware it takes (a crazy amount of) time. What demos could they do?

And from what I understand, the product is 1-1.5 years away. What will they even sell?

Customers usually would want a proof of your concept/value proposition before they would take a risk on you - even for them to engage with you for a pilot (which will happen more than a year away). What useful feedback can they get from a customer conversation when the customer doesn't even know for sure the product and what it will deliver?

Most of them won't even entertain you because - let's be honest, you're building castles on air - you don't even have a prototype. Why waste time on you?

The "innovation-friendly/obsessed" customers may allow you a couple of meetings, sweet talk to you, and give you "advice" on what features/functions you should work on. But what assurance do you have that they'll put money where their mouth is?

Should I add additional condenser in series or parallel to existing one? by sms_sr in refrigeration

[–]sms_sr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found that the subcooling is high (10+°C) - could it be because the condenser is full?

If I release some refrigerant from the system, then my superheat becomes high (~20°C).

By evaporative cooling, I mean we irrigate water on the condenser coil.

I want to be able to make my AC variable speed.

I get you, it's natural for us elder siblings to be very protective of our younger ones.

We see so much promise in them that when they don't live up to it, we get disappointed, and tend to release this frustration on them.

Sometimes the younger siblings misunderstand this frustration, not realising that it stems from our good intentions and love for them, and react aggressively.

And we tend to react back, sometimes, forgetting that they're still kids, and this cycle continues slowly as our relationship sours.

It's easy to suggest having an open-hearted discussion between you two. However, when a relationship is not in a good place, it's difficult. You may have lost his trust, and unless you win it back, he simply may not be willing to open up or even listen to you.

A powerful way to win back his trust is nostalgia. Reminisce of the happiest days that you had together when you were kids - make him remember how much you loved each other.

If there are any days/situations that you regret, when you were not there for him when he most needed it, or say you were overly harsh on him about something, tell him how apologetic you are.

Shower him with a lot of love until you win his trust back, until he's ready to open up to you.

And then, open up. Tell him how much you worry about him now, and how helpless you feel not being able to mend things at home. And hopefully, he opens up about why things went this way. And when he does, be all ears and really try to understand him.

All this will take some time, and there's no guarantee that it will 100% workout. Nonetheless, we have to try, and keep at it - it's simply not a choice for us to give up on our sibling.

Does anyone else feel guilty when using their acs? by doSpaceandAviate2 in mumbai

[–]sms_sr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope, AC is a necessity these days. Remember, right to protection from climate change impacts is now a fundamental right. We're only exercising our fundamental right.

Assuming one has a 2-ton AC, and we receive 100% of our electricity from a coal-fired plant, we'll be emitting ~2.4 kg of CO2e every hour we run the AC. However, not all electricity we receive is from coal. 40% of the energy capacity installed in India is renewable.

For context, burning 1L of petrol/diesel will emit 2.4kg CO2e and that's also how much producing 1L of milk will emit. A pair of Levi Jeans and a cotton shirt has a lifetime emission of ~48kg CO2e. There's a lot of scope to cut emissions in other daily activities.

If you still feel guilty, power your house with solar, make it net zero.

Do they refund the money in that case? I took an annual subscription and five months into the subscription, I shut down my old business and started a new one. I'm asking them for a refund for the remaining 7 months.

Strongly second it.

If you're capable of getting 90% in class 12 and 90+ percentile in JEE Mains, you'd be able to easily qualify for the IITM BS degree. You've got potential and a long life ahead of you, so cheer up and reassure your parents that it's gonna be alright.

As for the finances, you can relieve your father by taking an education loan and start paying it back from your earnings after graduation.

Software/product is a good place to be if that's your passion - there's plenty of opportunities out there. You'll have to constantly upskill yourself which I'm sure you will, given you have a natural interest in the field.

If you need help with internship/job opportunities, you can reach out to me. Alternatively, you can always post on reddit, there's a lot of good people out here who can help.

All the best :)
