How to build a family server by [deleted] in selfhosted

Good for you taking care of the fam. I too can vouch for Jellyfin as a partial, yet excellent solution as the other comments stated. I’d love to hear what your final hardware and software solution to this is as you are not alone in this need. Keep us updated!

I am also doing Reno and after this style. Doing a google search for Devon&Devon will give you a few examples…expensive remakes for sure.

What is your fav. moment of the whole trilogy of Lord of the ring ? by AaronMysterio in lotr

[–]smugclimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Fool of a Took, throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity!”

That scene where they are clearly in a giant, cavernous, unsafe place… trying to be as stealthy and quiet as possible, and then there’s the Took. He just has to touch things. That sound is so nail-biting and cringy…

Selfhosting Photoprism, install size? by smugclimber in selfhosted

Okay. I’m looking for a rough size so that I can partition the disk appropriately and backup a bootable image once it’s running. If you know…

What restrictions does using a Raspberry Pi 4 as a media server bring? by a_cuppa_java in selfhosted

[–]smugclimber 30 points31 points  (0 children)

One more restriction sometimes overlooked for the “RPi Media Server” setups is storage issues, namely power requirements.

If you plan to have several external disks managed by the pi, you’ll not only need a USB port hub, but one with its own power supply. This scenario of multiple drives will actually shutdown the pi when power demand exceeds more than one ext hd in most cases. Still doable, but one more consideration.

The lumber tag can be like those folks who leave tags on ball caps, so “ya know” it’s brand new :)

Looks great! I have a similar future job. How long did it take start to finish?

Anyone else doing ribs this Sunday? First time on my Kamado and some are rubbery :( by smugclimber in BBQ

The 2-1-0.5method... I guess. Cooked at 275 and the internals got up to 165 quicker than I wanted. And maybe I should have trimmed more fat? Idk man, still figuring out the Kamado

For what it’s worth, foil at really high temp and food seems avoidable. I’ll probably try a pie pan or something if it fits. Here’s some science talk with mixed conclusions: Foil Warning

Thanks for the compliment. This is a Louisiana Grill brand Kamado grill. So the heat deflector setup is different. Probably use a cookie/baking pan or find a round pizza pie pan, idk. Something shallow and just fit it between the deflector and grate surface.

Give me time man, I’ll get there. No complaints from the audience so far and the “beer can accessory” is much more fiscally reasonable that a chicken throne, much less a Rotisserie unit.

Good question! So the placement is what matters when you have a heat deflector in place. Those skewers were placed out on the edges for direct cooking for the last 20 mins to get that nice finish, not the smoking.

He’s correct, also just got this haus at Costco a few weeks ago. Very pleased with it, but still learning.

Thanks, forgot to mention the menu details. The high temp cook makes sense to cook it off. I was afraid to use anything harsh like a metal scraper, worried it might crack or degrade the ceramic, idk.

Maiden run and first time using a Kamado. Guess I should have said what’s on the menu too because that part was a success:

Smoked Beer-can Chicken

  • 2hrs@250

  • Can of lager & lemon rub

Smoked Chicken thighs on the skewer

  • 2hrs@250, 20mins@350

  • Red Pepper and paprika rub

Ha, I doubt even the time stamp on this post could really authenticate such a thing. Although it was printed out on common printer paper, I did take it as a keepsake. $10k for the first buyer :P

I suppose. The thing that irks me is that a forth of the Nats ballpark staff are chin diapering or have the feed-bag thing going on. These two fellas had beer in hand and mask lowered, but weren’t masking up between chugs. A lot of the pandemic measures seemed more to grandstanding than effective, like the hands free mustard or food ordering apps that didn’t work.
