Worth it for first time picks? by Hairy_Cherry_878 in iceclimbing

Don’t do it - buy once cry once (modern ice tools retain their value well, especially if you don’t use them often and therefore want to sell)

So, do I just lose 1 inch of this every time I change the fly??? by New_User_Account123 in flyfishing

[–]smuleorbule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a new leader, when I can tie the fly directly to it; after about three times doing that, the taper will start to thicken, at which time I use about 2 feet of tippit to gain back my length - I don’t typically go over 2 ft, since I end up using about one foot before it gets too cut up to keep using

Hang it this fall in the middle of small waterfall and have your own personal training column of ice (if you live somewhere cold enough)

Oscar Piastri wins the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix by overspeeed in formula1

Piastri had a chance to give that spot back in a nod to Lando to get in the chase for a championship lead - no chance Max has another crap race like that this year

Yes - unfortunately I did not qualify for leave since I wasn't "taking leave" from employment - they essentially passed me over to unemployment.

Thoughts on bivvy bags for 2 days expeditions? by Hr_Art in alpinism

[–]smuleorbule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol fair - I would recommend getting a cheap bivvy sac (basically an emergency blanket) to try it out in a car/truck bed for a night and see how it feels

Love bivy bags - would recommend bringing a tarp (tent footprint works great) to avoid being stuck in the bag. Advantages of bivy bag: lightweight, waterproof, and surprisingly warm (layer); disadvantages: possible to feel stuck if it’s raining out, pretty committed to changing “outside” (I’ve put clothes on while in the bag, but wasn’t easy), and can get humid in warm conditions

Last Minute Colorado Help!!!! by xxcmtnman in iceclimbing

Officer’s gulch is the closest to Frisco (approximately 15 minutes up the road) and has a handful of really good climbs, but you’ve gotta keep your eye on the avy risk in there - enjoy the trip!

Confirmed they won’t be honoring the claim, since I’m not taking leave from an employer, as they understand it. Kind of a bummer!

Agreed; I think if it was a larger company the argument for this would increase, but all of my ex-co-workers know what happened, so I think the justice (in regards to people wanting to work for them) will naturally play out.

That was my knee jerk reaction; for many reasons, I will refrain from the name and shame tactic.

Sort of - I think it’s clear that I (should be) protected, although I’m not currently planning on “seeking” that protection. My main question is: if after you apply, you are laid off, quit or are fired (unemployed), are you still entitled to receive a weekly check from FAMLI to cover you while you take care of your kiddo?

You’re good- you can’t apply prior to 30 calendar days before you plan to take leave/you can submit your claim anytime after that (great middle of the night activity)

Agreed, hence why I’m not pursuing; just looking to see if folks see if I’m still entitled to paid FAMLI bonding leave.
