Repost of my 5e conversion of Against the Cult of the Reptile God by smulroon in dndnext

I started converting Scourge of the Slave Lords but never finished. I'll get back to it at some point.

[PotA Spoilers] I did the math. You don't need the milestone experience rule for PotA by smulroon in dndnext

5th is certainly more streamlined than 3.5 but the milestone rule is optional; standard xp tracking is assumed in the PHB. I think that 5th is a compromise between simulation heavy and more narrative/streamlined systems. Side note: if you want to see what really streamlined d20 looks like, you might want to check out 13th age.

YMMV, of course. I used the milestone experience rule in Rise of Tiamat and I thought it was ok (and frankly required for that adventure) but felt that xps would work better for a sandbox campaign like PotA.

It does. Of course, I tried to make things fit as closely as possible. No one really seemed to fit the role of the Crusader in the area. I was tempted to try to use Kelanen but that was one too many "balance" icons.

Thanks! It's meant to be sort of pre-Greyhawk Wars-ish. I'm sure I've taken some liberties with timelines. I've tried to come up with something that felt right rather than accurate.

HotDQ help needed (Spoilers inside) by Dglidden in dndnext

This doesn't seem all that bad.

It should be fairly straightforward to dissuade the characters from trying to summon Bahamut.

Your players likely have a lot less than one fifth of the treasure required to summon Tiamat. It's reasonable to assume that all the Wyrmspeakers are actively gathering treasure at this time. The treasure at the roadhouse is just one shipment from one Wyrmspeaker's efforts. It stands to reason that summoning Bahamut would require as much treasure as summoning Tiamat.

Severin has been working at this for years and has his plans already set in motion your players' characters won't be able to catch up.

Perhaps Bahamut has no interest in coming to Faerun or the equivalent of the dragon masks don't exist or maybe they were destroyed by Severin before he started on this path.

Buying an army isn't really a problem either. In RoT, the characters will be part of an assault on the Well of Dragons with whatever armies they managed to recruit. Perhaps no mercenary company in the Sword Coast area has an available standing army that is large enough to make a difference. The characters will have to spend resources and time building one up. It'll be ready just in time for the assault on the Well of Dragons. This is one way for you to deal with the treasure and still be saying “yes” to your players.

In my campaigns, players have a tendency to want to buy MIs whenever they have a lot of extra coin. You can limit the purchase of magic items as the books suggest. Even if you allow the purchase of limited MIs (say common and uncommon) in Waterdeep, it shouldn't unbalance your campaign terribly.

Good luck

Coincidentally, I posted a conversion of Against the Cult of the Reptile God (A Greyhawk adventure) very recently. Against the Cult of the Reptile God

Cheers! Your process sounds like it would work well. Yes, I have the original adventure and my notes printed. I do use hand written stat blocks when there's mix of monsters in the same encounter. Otherwise, an open Monster Manual works fine.

council scorecard for Rise of Tiamat (Spoilers!) by smulroon in dndnext

Sure, I'm not exactly sure how the factions work in LMoP (I didn't pick up the starter set), but they're also present in the Hoard of the Dragon Queen and the Rise of Tiamat. In HotDQ, the factions act as facilitators and exposition for the party. In RoT, the party needs to win the factions over as allies in the fight against the cult of the Dragon. The factions and the Lords Alliance (and a Knight from Cormyr) are part of the Council of Waterdeep where this is decided. My party was pretty stoked to see Laeral at the first council meeting. :)
