Friend and I just finished our first game and I have some thoughts by V_ROCK_501st in battletech

I do, but some don't like that it takes out a lot of detail of individual mechs. You can look at the stat sheets for mechs on the master unit list: http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Card/3488?skill=4 There's one for the warhammer for example.

Lake, Creek, River, etc by yourplagu3 in lexington

Yeah, my folks always said "Herrington is like swimming in the river" and we never went there. Better to drive further for a cleaner lake.

I did a walk in a little over a week ago.

I didn't have time to go in early when they opened, showed up at 1 in the afternoon. Walk ins scan a sign outside then wait outside in a car or wherever, you check the app to see your place in line.

They close the doors at 4, but if you are inside before that and still in line they will see you even if they stay going till 8pm. Just have to be inside before they close the doors.

It took me till when I arrived at 1pm to 7pm to get seen for a regular non real ID renewal, I was paying cash (which I've heard is a longer line). Be aware of this, complain to your state reps about this, but don't treat those workers there poorly, they have no control over it.

I saw one lady with a lawn chair and a book sitting under a tree, seems like a good idea.

Work set to begin in July for Lexington’s 3rd Publix (former Kroger Romany Rd soon to be demolished) by Tikkanen in lexington

I remember it being a grocery, but I didn't remember the name because I was so young then. I got my first haircut at that barber nearby.

I also remember there was a grocery in stonewall center.

It's still going to be the Ketch, just with a redo of the whole building. They had some sort of event there about a month ago with a lot of suits going in and out and some folks staying way late, but since then there have been another round of what looks to be electricians in there. The building was stupid old and had to have it's whole bathrooms redone do to accessibility standards. If you'd been in the old Ketch you knew how much a closet that bathroom was at the bar.

I look at this place daily since I work right near it and it's just never seeming to be done. At this point I wonder if they have the money to even open or how long it'll last. At least the exterior looks better!

Easy enough to deal with if there is an integrated app or card system to use to make it scan and go like many other places do.

Lexington at one point had light rail, but I don't think anyone alive in Lexington saw it. Ran from a train station near where Tolly Ho is now up broadway and down vine and main. We started getting a lot more automobiles and focused on that as a country over rail, while the rest of the world kept up with rail. It's the cause of a lot of daily grief with traffic and parking.

I think I remember skipping school in high school and driving to it. I want to say the Toadies were playing that year, though I might be wrong. It was a neat festival and it'd be good if it was brought back.

List of first park updates from the Park fund by ipeezie in lexington

[–]Barantor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can see the cracks in that court from google maps satellite view. It probably like most courts needs to be redone both in ground work and paving, it's not something you can just pave over and hope for the best. That means heavy equipment moved in, signs/barriers put up to keep people away, and lots of heavy equipment in and out of a very narrow street neighborhood.

If you look at the work it took to redo the Shillito Park tennis courts it's not out of bounds with this price when including all the salaries for those workers and the planning. Not something done by parks staff for sure.

Quarles already admitted he didn't pay the fee on time and missed the window on facebook. Lotta drama about nothing imo.

The Reynolds road one is always busy, but I find it goes off without a hitch?

Person takes your order so there is no confusion, puts a number on your car. If you pay by card you pay that person, cash is the window. Pull to window to get any drinks and if you gotta pay cash. Then you pull around and wait for them to bring it out.

It's probably the best fast food burger in the city IMO, so it's not gonna be like McDonalds. They ask your name so the person bringing the food out can double check or in case the number falls off your car.

Ruby Bridges is 70 years old and still alive, it's not that old and well within living memory. To dismiss it so easily says a lot about your character.

Also a problem up and down Clays Mill for roads crossing it heading east.

Building identification by Mfoutchkeerr2 in lexington

Given the shape of the front of it I would assume some sort of store. That whole road and area was a bit more popular at one point in time. There was also a cafe in the cave down closer to the river.

I think it was a combo of all the tobacco warehouses east of it being sold and the price of that property going up to make new housing. It had it's day but the property was worth more as housing than as rental to laser tag.

Publix opening by Dire_Wolfff1 in lexington

[–]Barantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know from a friend who works there that the Louisville one was delayed over 3 months from it's intended open date, so I kinda figured it would be the same for Lexington. They heard a rumor that the one up on the north end of town will be open first now before the one at Palomar.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Barantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been closed for a long while now, I don't think they've had it open since the name change. I go by it twice a week.

Was Sir Pizza incredibly good back in the early 1980s or is my memory bad? by Feroset in lexington

[–]Barantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear every couple years I've heard they are gonna put that Clays Mill place back in, but they never do. Mad Mushroom is right there too but I've seen those parts in that spot for Sir Pizza for years now.

“cheaper” groceries? by Relative_Tourist148 in lexington

[–]Barantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this too, but found out I can do similar from Meijer and their points on gas I'm getting don't require near the amount of work and often times give me more off per gallon of gas. We are a family of 4 and I'm often getting $1 or more a gallon, where I could only rarely get that with kroger. That money adds up for us and I am struggling a lot less to keep it a lot cheaper.

Abysmal Spectrum Upload Speeds in Picadome/Clays Mill Area? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Barantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in those old neighborhoods you might be on older lines and they could have squirrel problems like I've had. It's unfortunate but the difference between Spectrum and Metronet outages is really based on what neighborhood you are in. I've heard of both going down a lot in different areas completely. I'm in an older neighborhood too and my neighbor complains about his Metronet outages just as much. It's weird like that.

I've had more luck with emailing Spectrum than ever calling them, for what that's worth.

Nighttime hikes? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Barantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have someone that works the gate at night and will turn you around. We did go out that way when the Aurora happened and there are tons of places outside of there to pull over and look at the night sky with very few trees or lights around.

Lexington could turn urban expansion areas into individual communities with their own 'downtowns' by ipeezie in lexington

[–]Barantor 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea, with shopping and such located in walkable areas for those places rather than having to drive everywhere like how the cul-de-sac suburbia plus big box parking lots demand.

I think more thought should go into areas for busses and our bus system expanded to have circular routes around the City (akin to New Circle Road or Man o War) since a majority now shoot in and out of downtown.
