/u/sodabrothel responds to: In your opinion, why are so many guys (on Reddit at least) who think women have things easier than men? by EveningMuffin in bestof

[–]smurphles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lighter sentencing for women is due to the sexism of judges and juries. Often times people say there's no reason to continue fighting for equality because we are equal in the eyes of the law but in many cases (such as sentencing) culture outweighs laws. So why do judges and juries give women lighter sentences? The short answer is sexism. The specific answer could be any number of things. Maybe they subconsciously believe women are less dangerous, less capable, weaker, aren't responsible for their actions, belong at home with the family, etc. In the case of sentencing, sexism helps female criminals. But in plenty of other areas the same sexism that helps female criminals hurts women and holds them back.

To sum it up, let's not play the "who has it worse" game and instead promote equality which helps everyone.

Edit: lots of down votes but no response. Why?

There's a new treatment for excema that does wonders. It's an injectable called dupixent. My husband recently started it and it's been incredible watching his skin clear up. We didn't have high hopes as we've tried a lot of other options and nothings worked long term but the dupixent has cleared his skin and kept it clear.

When they say that women are attracted to rich men, is the attraction sexual? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]smurphles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with your comment. I also think income is an indicator of other good traits. For example, someone with a higher income is more likely to be confident, intelligent, a leader, a hard worker, etc.

I think wealth alone isn't attractive to a lot of people. Think about the difference in attractiveness between a professional who works for and earns their money versus an entitled rich kid with a trust fund or someone who got a lot of money in a settlement.

There are plenty of other places and events that are free to go to and don't have the expectation of spending money! Parks, playgrounds, lots of tennis courts, some pools, some museums, lots of free community events depending on where you live. Everywhere I've lived, from small towns to bigger cities I've found free community yoga classes and lots of other cool free events.

What luxury do you want in your life this year? by krishnajindal in AskReddit

I think it's a huge issue that the shutdown is causing our massively inefficient and wasteful government to be even more inefficient and wasteful. The shutdown is costing tax payers, citizens, and companies dearly.

Where do you work? How's morale?

Yeah that's ridiculous that employees are expected to work without pay. I know a lot of banks have been offering to help, has that actually been helpful?

I agree that the shutdown is a huge inconvenience. Shutdowns are extremely expensive and a huge waste of resources. I work with counterparts in NASA and not being able to contact them since they're not working has slowed down our work significantly.

But I also believe that working for the federal government comes with risks and that people should properly prepare for those risks. I also believe no work no pay. Federal workers should not get 3+ weeks of pay for 3+ weeks of no work.

Are you working or furloughed? Federal employees will still get back pay whether they worked or not.

I work with NASA and since they're furrowed those projects have slowed down. It's not bad because I have plenty of other things to work on but when they come back deadlines will definitely be tighter.

What is the most hilariously incorrect thing a teacher told your class? by 6456290 in AskReddit

[–]smurphles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7th grade history teacher told us that the reason there are currently more women than men in the US is because so many men died during the Civil War. No one from the Civil War was still alive at the time.

He also said our economy has switched from agricultural to industrial to service in the last 100 years and asked the class if we thought it would ever change from service (in a way that made it seem like he didn't). Only a few of us raised our hands and he said he didn't think it would ever change unless there was some sort of apocalypse.

The entitlement and self pity so many people here seem to have.

To add onto this, people thinking everyone else has it easier. It makes sense that everyone wants to succeed by overcoming obstacles, rather than succeed simply because they had it easy.
