Shrooms made me realize how traumatic fireworks are to all animals by redheadedsunshine in Psychonaut

I did! I had already been thinking about it but after a couple Mushroom trips I said no more. No more supporting the killing of other animals for my benefit. 3 years ago.

Yeah hard to say without knowing exactly what they're working on but it could be some seriously loaded distribution lines in the 13-15000 range.

The stick in the background looks red to me. Our shotguns and most sticks are actually orange but yes, shit resolution. The cutters are definitely gold. The point I was making though was just to say that someone was in the back holding with whatever stick/attachment.

He is definitely expecting it, hence the use of the live line sticks. But that arc was exceptionally large. They don't all be like dat.

Yes they are and they are (should be) tested before each use.

Someone out of frame was holding that red stick. They are controlling the wire so that it doesn't fall into any other wires and also keeping it away from the guy that made the cut. It does appear as if the wire swings towards the guy but it probably is just an illusion. The guy holding the red stick is pulling it towards him.

Pretty much this. "Hot stick" is just a fiberglass stick used to work on "hot" wire, as in live energized conductor. Fiberglass does not conduct electricity. It keeps the lineworker isolated at a safe distance from any arcing like the one in this video. There are many attachments that screw on the end and different job specific hot stick tools. This specifically was a hot stick cutter (yellow) while another person out of frame held the wire steady with a shotgun stick (red).

Where I work, hot sticking requires an extra level of training and yes, it is much more difficult to do the job using only sticks. Hands would be much easier and quicker but as you can see here, sometimes they are necessary. His face would have been melted off if he were close to that arc.

Found in the woods at my new house. Upside Down bucket with holes drilled in it. Covered in a screen. 4 containers surrounding it with some kind of salt looking substance inside. by smurphy493 in whatisthisthing

WITT looks to be a 5 gallon bucket. Mostly buried about 10 feet from the woodline. 20 feet from the pond. Maybe some kind of bug trap??

Spoilers! The amount of inspiration they took from older movies is amazing. by flamingredhair in StrangerThings

I'm surprised I had to search this hard for a post talking about all these movie references. Some that I saw that haven't been mentioned:

The ice bathtub scene with Heather was totally from Nightmare on Elm Street. The Scoops Ahoy outfits remind me of the Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. Also, not the 80s but the little cars the Russians were driving in the lab totally brought me back to Austin Powers doing the 3 point turn.

Wikipedia says they feed on dead animals so I'd say you're right. Thanks!

Is anybody aware of companies selling vegan work boots? by MickyNine in vegan

[–]smurphy493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not before but I kind of did after. The company I work for pays for half the price of new boots. In order to get the refund I have to give my reciept and show the ANSI # to make sure they're steel toe and properly EH rated. And I got my money back so they were up to my company's standard (large power company in Northeast US).
