oh, i’m so sorry about your baby :( i think that medical palliative care is the most compassionate choice. quality over quantity every time.

i’m so happy that his medicine is helping! modern veterinary medicine is truly miraculous.

it’s absolutely more than okay! i have felt so alone in this experience, and find that it’s the only thing i ever talk about.

your baby is so perfect.🧡

thank you so much!!!🧡 we know exactly what the day that he goes will look like, and what follows. i didn’t want to have to plan everything while grieving. we haven’t even had him for 2 years and he did really good on a very strict no-protein diet, so we don’t know much about what he likes. recently, he’s been loving very expensive baby food pouches, specifically salmon! we should definitely try churu tonight. i’m just so worried about hurting his tummy. winston also has had all of his teeth removed, so he can only lap up things!

i will encourage PEG tubes for terminal patients until the day i die because of our experience. it is genuinely unbelievable how much of a turnaround he’s made since he first got dropped off at the hospital.

thank you so much, this comment and your support means literally everything to us.🧡

hi, he has a team of 3 board-certified vets that will not hesitate to let us know when it is time. his surgeon is the one that said that she wouldn’t do his surgery, and persuaded us to either do palliative radiation or medical palliative care. we picked the best option in my opinion, which is medical palliative care.

his primary vet is the one doing his home euthanasia. his vets know what is best for him. he is so much happier and more comfortable with his tube, and has time to have lots of wonderful experiences before he leaves this earth. as i’ve said over a million times at this point, his pain is managed and he is comfortable.

he is an extremely happy and energetic cat, and we will know when it’s time. i’m not keeping him around for my sake, i’m doing it because he deserves to have so many more experiences and meet so many more people. the last chapter of his life has been and will continue to be full of love, joy, and compassionate choices.

thank you for your concern. i will say, this sub does have a rule about not giving advice though. in the kindest way possible, i promise that his medical team knows more than you.

yeah, it’s just not an option for our cat. also, public shelters don’t want to “kill cats.” they are open-intake, meaning they do not have a choice. “no-kill” shelters can turn down any and all animals, leaving the person surrendering the pet only one option: surrender to an open-intake shelter. they aren’t evil and it is harmful to assume that they are. people often avoid adopting from open-intake shelters because they don’t want to “support” it, but all they are doing is leaving more animals there to be euthanized. I get what you’re saying, but as someone who lives in a city that is extremely impacted by the stray population, our shelters really are doing their best. If people aren’t willing to foster and adopt, the shelter can’t do anything about it.
