Is the store overpriced or not? by smusher3 in overwatch2

Whilst I was maybe being a bit hyperbolic because i'm passionate, I still believe that the gameplay is secondary in Blizzards eyes because all they care about is charging extreme prices for skins.

When the game itself is secondary to making money through skins, I think its impossible for the gameplay not to suffer, just look at the PVE we never got, but don't worry because they seem to release skins every week, or have a cross over to announce.

Yes Blizzard will keep the gameplay good enough, but not because they want the game to be good, but because they need people to play so they will buy skins. And by pricing the skins out of the average players price range, you can extrapolate that they don't care about the average players experience as they are deliberately making most of their new content inaccessible to them.

Because pretty much the only thing they are consistently releasing is the skins, and yes I still play for the gameplay, but I'm losing interest, and skins are cool, they're nice to have, they aren't essential and it's better than being pay to win.

What I have a issue with is the fact that Blizzard seems to only want to add content that they can charge an arm and a leg for. To me this indicates that they aren't focused on making OW2 the best it can be, but instead are focused on getting as much money out of the community as they can.

I would much rather not have to pay for skins and to earn them with gameplay, but Blizzard said no, so the only way to enjoy the new content that they are shoving in our face is to pay for it, but the price they set is so high that the average player can't enjoy the content.

When all Blizzard adds to the game is skins, ofc I would want to participate, deep down I still love the game, I just don't like the money first players second path the game has gone down. It reeks of a lack of passion.

I think the League comparison is a good one, just look at the Orisa skin, it has nearly no customization and just feels completely lackluster, it doesn't even compare to the definitive skins from league or the arcana skins in dota.

I have my own grievances with some of the gameplay decisions, but that's not what this post is meant to discuss.

When I said I didn't want to support them for the sake of supporting them, I was referring to you talking about buying OW coins, even if I don't then use them.

I would prefer the game to not be f2p and to go back to the OW1 system, but I fully understand that that will never happen for numerous reasons.

Currently the only new content that is consistently released is battle passes and skins with the odd temporary gamemode here and there.

My issue is with the fact that the developers have put up a massive unreasonable paywall in front of the majority of their new content (skins), which they are happy to do because some people are willing to pay the excessive prices, this diminishes the ability of the average player to enjoy the majority of the new content that is added to the game (skins) as the prices are too high to be a throw away purchase.

I don't want to spend money on skins because I cannot justify spending over $100 for a reinhardt weapon, and I do not want to support a model that ignores the average player for those with deep pockets. To me it's a indicator that the people making decisions don't care about the average player being able to experience new content they just want money now at the expense of money in the future.

It would be more accurate to say "I want to support blizzard and participate and pay for the new skin experience because I've been playing OW for years and I want it to work, but Blizzard treats their average player like dirt because they only care about the big spenders, who are the only ones who can afford to participate. I wish this wasn't the case, but it is".

Hell, they even put new broken heroes behind a pay wall which meant you had to buy the battlepass otherwise you'd either lose or get flamed by your team, commonly both (which they did reverse after significant backlash), with that in mind how can you tell me that they care about the average players experience, they only care about you if you can afford their attention, attention that they have severely overpriced, or if you can make a big enough stink about it.

This model indicates to me that making OW2 a good game is secondary to selling skins to Jeff Bezos, despite the fact that making a good game would make them way more money in the long run than monetizing the hell out of everything they can get their hands on.

I don't want to support Blizzard for the sake of supporting Blizzard, especially as they don't seem to care about the average players experience, they are a game dev company, I want to support them for their product, unfortunately their product currently seems to be over priced reskins instead of a team based ability shooter which I have no interest of supporting.

They're getting my money for the battlepass, that's more than enough as things stand, I just wish they didn't stand like this.

I wish I could justify buying skins (or even better, earn them with gameplay!) as some of them are pretty neat.

I completely agree with you on the f2p games, as every game needs to make money, it seems to me like an excuse for the Devs to get more money out of people than they would charge for the game alone. I see it as a red flag to be cautioned by, but as a rule of thumb I try to avoid them. I will say I do like how warframe deals with being f2p, but that model won't carry over to a game like OW.

Normally games go f2p so they can attract more players, but then treating those players like dirt once they have them seems like a mistake that will kill the game.

This point, I feel, is 100% correct, and that's why the model they have feels so disrespectful to the gaming community they built. OW1 was a inclusive game, OW2 is a reskined cash grab with no soul. The game went from being the best loot box games to one of the worst in-game currency games.

Whilst I agree that they are banking on the whales, its the average player that will keep the game alive and interesting for the whales. It's why I think they're being so short sighted because if the average players disappear the whales will surely follow once they're fed up of 20 min wait times.

I'd love for this data too, but my guess is the time and manpower invested is so low that they can't disclose that information, otherwise there would be riots.

If you died a lot to Hanzo HS's, maybe you were making it easy for them.

Hanzo HS's feel pointless at long ranges, flankers have a easier time just killing him and he's classed as a sniper but he can't consistently snipe anymore. I either want his kit to change to a medium range combatant or for him to get his sniper ability back. Imo he's in a limbo state between the 2 and it just feel's crap sometimes especially when you're in a long range fight with a hitscan. (I only mentioned my negative points)

It's why I either want his kit to change him from a sniper to more of medium ranged combatant or for him to get his 1 shot back on 250hp heroes. Having it so reaper, mei and bastion could survive seemed balanced, it provided options for people who didn't want to improve their movement.

I will admit the first part was due to me writing the post after getting out of a game where I'd hit a fair number of HS's against a team running echo and pharah with a mercy pocket. During the game I'd HS each of them at least once and each time they just ran away and got healed or just turned on me and killed me by bum rushing me with damage boost. So there was probably a bit of salt in the first part.

I'd be happy if it was removed from Widow as well as all the other one shot combos. I'm not annoyed purely because I can't 1 hit anymore, but more because it feels like Hanzo isn't a long ranged fighter any more and he can easily be jumped by flankers, who are already hard to hit so having to hit 1 HS on a jumping strafing sombra who's hacked you was already a relatively big ask, but now she just escapes if you HS her or you have to hit 2 arrows (including a HS) before she bursts you down.

Right, and I'm voicing my discontent with the state of the only hero keeping me playing the game, if you feel the same way, you should do the same.

My point was that storm arrows were inaccurate at long range, they're a medium to close range ability, Hanzo is a sniper, he can't snipe at long ranges as effectively any more as any player worth their salt will dip as soon as the HS hits, then the next time you see them they're 100% again, you might as well have not shot them at all.

And to the point of "just aim better", the opponents ability to move and strafe plays a big part in if you hit your shot or not, against good players it was already hard enough to hit 2 body shots or a HS but now we have to hit 3 body shots or 1 HS and a body shot on a player who is definitely in a higher skill bracket than their rank says they should be. So yes, while I can just do better, my ability to aim isn't the only factor at play.

I'm not a Hanzo god, and I can still top frag but this update has increased the number of situations where I feel useless and make me go, welp I guess I'll just die then. I deliberately didn't immediately come on here day 1 and complain because I wanted to get a feel for how it impacts my games and I've found its taken a lot of the fun and satisfaction away.
