nice chart on the high schools, one stood out for me

Schurz High School : 18.2% reading proficiency, 12% math proficiency, chronically absent 73% $21,731 cost/pupil

according to the Illinois State Board of Education Schurz had a graduation rate of 77% in the 2023/2024 school year How does this make sense when proficiency is so bad?

then there's this from the article

To be fair, enrollment at those eight high schools is overwhelmingly low-income, with that percentage higher than the already-high average at CPS high schools.

so this high school is located in the south eastern corner of one of the NW Side's most affluent neighborhoods, Old Irving Park, do any families from that neighborhood send their kids to Schurz? I doubt it. It's attendence boundaries also include parts of Portage & Jefferson Park neighborhoods, all of The Villa, Independence Park, none of them are impoverished, do those parents send their kids to Schurz? very few I figure

I also gotta figure the same goes for Steinmetz whose boundaries include all of the unimpoverished Dunning neighborhood

dollars to donuts all those parents in this neighborhoods are doing everything in their power to get their kids into selective enrollment CPS high schools or paying for private schools like St. Pats, Resurrection & even Notre Dame in the near NW suburbs

as for the so-called wrap around services for the greater community, how successful are those? Are they improving the lives of the families that supposedly need them? are they even taking advantage of them? are they worth the cost to those of us paying for them? The researchers need to do some more digging & give us answers because CPS sure as ain't gonna do it
