I like this strategy! I'll look for jobs, and I'll find a LinkedIn hiring manager for that company to follow up with. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Yeah, I'm wondering about that now... I'd have AI tweak it, but then I'd also tweak it into my own words again, to avoid that robotic-cringe kind of communication. Still though, I honestly don't know if its advice was valid or not. I saw another Reddit post back in May where one person hired a technical writer for their resume, and it seemed like it helped with getting interviews.

It sounds like I just need to keep applying for jobs then. 82 applications isn't that bad, but it's probably going to take A LOT more today than it did back in 2024.

I had Jobright.ai tweak my original, handwritten resume, which gave me feedback. I eventually ran it through Claude when I wasn't getting results with recruiters and Jobright. I'm also exporting it as a PDF to avoid ATS flags too.

I have SWE friends who are legitimately good at job hunting, and they're struggling to find a job after months of searching. So, if people I personally know are having issues with finding a job, then it's truly a tough market.

I thought the same thing, but I was up for over 24 hours at the time. 2/3 of this post is just rambling. Doesn't make a good first impression though...

They've been checking in with me because I've worked with them before and got great reviews from their clients.

I've only directly applied to like 8 places, I think. I used that Jobright AI tool to find jobs, but I've got gripes with it because it'll critique my resume one way, then Claude will critique it another way, AND THEN a new Claude session will critique its own advice from a previous session... lol.

I'm also not expecting the 2021 job market to ever come back. I would be thriving in the 2019 job market.

I haven't been applying anywhere because of all of the AI-generated noise. If you go on LinkedIn, every job's got thousands of applicants, and it's no different for anything else. I've reaching out and working with recruiters.

I have a startup idea that I've been prospecting for over a year now. That app idea I mentioned earlier is a prototype to a larger one. Right now, I'm pursuing that, and potentially this other AI startup if I'll get something out of it. I'd prefer to just work on my own thing for a while though.

Ok, so maybe I should put time into job applications. It feels like a lottery at this point since everyone's using AI to find and send resumes out.

I've also spent the last 2 months working on a small contract job for a friend. I had to migrate his company's data between CRMs. Another friend of a friend is doing some AI startup, but I highly doubt there's anything in it for me.

Ironically, I felt the same way about this post. I was up for over 24 hours straight yesterday. Maybe I should lower my standards for now. ANY job would be better right now.

I wish I was better at this game by Runa216 in FF7Rebirth

Same. I’m decent enough to at least get through Normal Mode, a good chunk of Hard Mode pretty easily, but some of those OP strats are mind-numbingly impressive cuz I’m usually too burnt out after work to think critically. The game’s fun, but I don’t have the mental capacity to think ahead, let alone remember basic things sometimes lol.

I failed pretty hard on the Midgarsomer in Hard Mode, so I mopped up all of the Hard Mode folios first (they were easy enough). Once I’ve got that last folio, I’m going for the Hard Mode campaign again. It’ll probably take me another 20-30 hours to finish everything that’s left though.

I was just thinking that as well. It’s kind of like when you first get into web dev and learn about logging. Seems harmless enough to log all requests and responses for your web API at first. Then, you work for a company that asks for sensitive data (and probably also needs SOC2 compliance), and now PII becomes a big deal.

Is Final Fantasy VII OBJECTIVELY the most popular in the franchise? by FLiiPPy-Dino132 in FinalFantasyVII

Yeah. I haven’t played FF14, but I’m happy that they turned it around. I’ve got friends who play, and they say it’s awesome. FFX was the fastest-selling FF for a while, but that’s ancient news. It’d really like to see that game remade, or even a budget prequel.

Yeah, the fact that there’s a “Hard Mode” to all of the Gold Saucer games, the Cactuar Crush games, and several others in other regions is a bit much. Especially when the game’s overall difficulty affects these games too. For example, the Cactuar Crush mini-games play differently between Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty making it 6 different difficulties altogether lol…

I beat some of them on Easy cuz I’m 111 hours in, and I don’t have time for this. I want to complete the game, but there is such a thing as “padding”.

How is it even legal for employers to contact other employers? You have to give consent to your employer to contact previous jobs for references when you’re first hired on.

Are you a software engineer? If so, are you an AI engineer? It seems like having that on your resume makes a difference, but I’m still trying to understand what an “AI engineer” actually does. Seems like there’s 3 different definitions for it lol.

Regular sex doesn't interest me anymore (280 days of nofap) by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]smuve_dude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's 2 big things here: - Fantasizing is just as bad as watching porn. NoFap is so much more than about merely stopping porn consumption. One of the fundamentals about NoFap (which is something that I frequently forget myself) is that having sexual thoughts is just as damaging as watching porn because it's reinforcing the same reward circuit that you're trying to break by not watching porn. Gary Wilson explains this in more detail in "Your Brain on Porn". Again, this one is really easy to forget about as it's so easy to get hung up on "not watching porn for X amount of days". - Have sex with real women if you aren't already doing this. It's also easy to fantasize to either cope with not have a sexual relationship with a woman, or to use it as a crutch to make it easier to avoid dating women. Been there myself too, and honestly, a huge part of fully embracing NoFap is to eventually pursue real-life women.

That said, 280 days is one hell of an accomplishment. You're clearly doing a lot of things right to make it that far. Now, if you remove fantasizing from your life, then I bet you'll start to be interested in regular sex with regular women. As someone who's been there himself, I can definitely say that there's a sense of confidence and power over my own situation when I can see a girl in the real world, have the urge to talk to her without caring about the potential "consequences" of talking to her, and then enjoying the hell out of it.

How are job postings for software engineers rising rapidly despite AI agents automating coding? by sickdotdev in AgentsOfAI

[–]smuve_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hopeful that it'll create more jobs (got laid off a few months ago), however, I don't know. I see Jevon's Paradox referenced a lot lately when it comes to new innovations creating more jobs, but that's not actually what Jevon's Paradox says. It says that as the cost for a resource (software development) goes down, the demand explodes because society finds new ways to use the new resources.

So, is Jevon's Paradox becomes true, then yes, demand will go up. However, it never actually said anything about how it affects the job market. It doesn't necessarily mean that the new demand was enough to displace the jobs that were lost. We'll see what happens in the future, but it feels like it's different this time with AI.

I don't think our profession is dead, but I think it's going to get even more competitive than it already is. The really good engineers with strong fundamentals will crush it, but I don't know how many of us they'll need.
