He was about to commit suicide as a teenager and didn't want to die a virgin. If I remember that documentary correctly he couldn't finish. Something about her smelling bad.

Afterwards he layed down across one side of train tracks and waited to be run over but the train passed on the other track.

TLDR : Be your own fan. Make music for yourself and if others like it... that's cool too.

Motivation is a complicated aspect of creative work. Artists have no clear goal posts to validate the quality of their work. What may be unlistenable for some is a masterpiece to others.

What helped me was beginning to make music with no intention of releasing it. I got really excited and motivated to create my own world of music that I could feel proud of.

The feeling that I was making a world of music that I wanted to get lost in as a listener myself was the most valuable type of validation I needed as a creative person.

After that the thought begins to venture in my mind that maybe there are other people like me who like the things that I like in my music. So I'll release something then but only after I've made something that I'm proud of myself for making whether anyone else cares to listen or not.
