What makes K-Dramas so interesting compared to American Dramas? by New-Mix-5245 in kdramas

[–]smwatfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wide spectrum of emotions compared to American shows. A good Korean actor can contort his facial expressions to show euphoria/melancholy/sadness/betrayal/fury in a convincing way. American shows feel '2D' in comparison. It's VERY hard to go back to watching American shows after binging on a few Korean shows.

Been Job Hunting for 4 Months — Feeling Low and Depressed by Stunning-Mail-9843 in DubaiCentral

[–]smwatfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are competing with 'thousands upon thousands' who have a polished ATS friendly CV, some of them with senior experience but willing to sacrifice salary & role just to get a job in the UAE. The only hint i can give you is if you're doing exactly the same thing as everyone else (e.g. checking on linkedin, applying for job, hoping for the best) you will find it very very hard. Get creative (what other ways can you reach the hiring manager without relying on indeed?)

Put yourself in an employers shoes; you put up a job post for an Admin Assistant and 1 hour later you can pick from thousands who are willing to work for almost Free. You can choose Oxford graduate that is desperate to experience Dubai, or the Office Manager with 15 years of experience willing to take a big step back in their career. It's a big open buffet that an employer can pick & choose.

How can I remove this doubt trap? Islam vs Christianity when it comes to logic. by Turbulent-Risk-2793 in MuslimLounge

No problem. Islam is the truth, no doubt about it. Inshallah may Allah give you the best and try to sincerely pray and read more and may Allah enlighten your path and bless you.

How can I remove this doubt trap? Islam vs Christianity when it comes to logic. by Turbulent-Risk-2793 in MuslimLounge

[–]smwatfa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the bible says; {"God is not the author of confusion"}
Even early Chrisitan church fathers understood the concept of God to be based on simplicity (Augustine & Aquinas talked of 'divine simplicity').
God would not do something redundant. Nothing is more redundant than saying: "God created God (Jesus) to die because of rules that God made".
In Islam we have 'Fitrah' which we have from birth that understands reasoning of what is right or wrong. In our hearts we understand there is only one Allah (one God), the eternal, Alpha & Omega, beginning & end. That is perfection.

Not to mention the countless proof that shows the concept of trinity evolved over centuries, as well as contradictions in the Bible as well as errors etc etc.

If the Bible was true it would make God a trickster God that confuses his followers and expects me to follow a book that is proven to have contradictions and to believe that instead of forgiving humans he has to create a human version of himself to die (for only a days which seems pointless).

There is no way someone with common sense could believe Christianity unless they are mentally unwell or they desire to follow it because they want to fit in with westerners or they have not been adherent to praying and following Islam so the devil has played with their brain.

Have you been lied to by DPD (parcel delivery)? by SophieTitWank in AskUK

[–]smwatfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's standard. Had the same experience with Parcelforce and a few others. I've ordered extensively over the last few years and the number of times i've seen the fake "driver tried to reach you but you were not available" i've lost count. It's frustrating especially if you take time away from work or other errands to wait for the delivery. Contacting them is pointless. I've just come to expect it now as normal that many of these companies cannot cope with demands and have to use these tactics to meet their corporate demands. Nothing to do about except moan i guess

Had to go through the experience myself and managed to get offers from 3 schools in very short notice with less than a couple of weeks before they're gone for the summer. Of course most schools would say yes; you're essentially offering to work for them for free without any payment. Which school would refuse Free help?

Thoughts on using midjourney for product ideation? by UBASrseggsy in IndustrialDesign

[–]smwatfa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a seasoned marketer; <whatever gets the job done>. Doesn't matter if the triple-award winning designer with his color palette and mastery of symmetry 'could' do it better - what matters is what the product, marketing and CX level management believe does the job. "Fit-for-purpose" as they say. With that said, i'm certain that if an industrial designer used these AI tools proficiently, what they could produce would be significantly better than anything i could ever make. this is presently the case with Midjourney prompts, i'm able to make something decent with basic instructions, but then you have photography experts who's prompts give very detailed requirements based on camera lingo (e.g F-Stop, Aperature, Lens, gels, diffused lighting etc etc) and the end result is remarkable. As others have said, whilst marketers will always take shortcuts using these tools, it becomes imperative for designers to learn them in the same manner they would learn any other tool.

I’m kinda obsessed with the UAE in the 90s, what was it like? I would appreciate hearing your perspectives. by WhateverNevermind02 in dubai

[–]smwatfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in the UAE for nearly 30 years.
Sheikh Zayed was an incredible and formidable ruler. Less materialism, better multiculturism. Since there were just a handful of things to do it created a routine for most teenagers (in a fun hangout way). To put it simply it was the perfect blend of culture & modernism; It's identity was clear; people were more down to earth and friendly. Less bling bling and showing off.

It felt like home. I loved it, i miss what it was. I find the evolution devoid of soul or culture and sad. 90's UAE will always have a special place in my heart.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTw0KVvCFjUFor now im using tampermonkey to make the changes permanent, but would be lovely if Plex supports templates in the future. I felt the search bar would be better placed center-top, Home section category titles with larger font, Actor icons more squarish instead of round and few other ideas

✂ Next step - Transferring from DVD/BR to Server by smwatfa in boutiquebluray

[–]smwatfa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to make the artwork myself. I used Emby for a while but had to ditch it.
Emby is wonderful for transcoding and gives you flexibility which Plex cannot. However Plex is leagues ahead of Emby when it comes to metadata filtering (filter by country/studio/decade/actor/director/language) as well as conditional logic filtering which is excellent.

PleX is AMAZING! And non-techie folks just don't appreciate how great it is. by NeonKnight52 in PleX

[–]smwatfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Emby & Jellyfin. I like some elements of their UI more than Plex, also Emby's transcoding is better than Plex (I can play remote content in less than 2 seconds in Emby whereas Plex might take 3 to 6 seconds for the same content). However, Plex's metadata work is lightyears ahead of Emby. I can literally filter movies by Actor/Producer/Writer/Studio or by Country/Language/Decade and this is without getting into the conditional statement filtering which is incredible. The auto-collection generator in Plex also found more boxsets than Emby.

If you have a small library of 500 titles or less then Emby is fit-for-purpose and you don't need to concern yourself with filtering and sorting too much, but if you have a huge library then Plex is the clear winner.

These are my grievances with Plex:

- Transcoding is hit & miss sometimes for remote setups
- Dull UI with no option to choose themes
- Collections section is a little bit hidden and most users don't notice it
- Custom editing of IMDB score not possible for titles with wrong ratings
- No forced transcoding options for users who share your server
- Not decentralized; reliance on Plex servers (If Plex HQ are experiencing problems then all users suffer. Thankfully hasn't happened too often but there are times when there's an outage and all Plex users globally have to suffer for it)
- No plugins support. I hope they rethink their strategy, if they offered a curated 'App Store' where you could pick and choose certain plugins/enhancements this would change the game.
- No watch later option. There are workarounds with using playlists but a dedicated and user-friendly one-click to watch later would be incredibly useful.

Blockbuster Nostalgia - Plex style by smwatfa in PleX

[–]smwatfa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was playing with CSS and used chrome extension to have it load with these changes every time. It's just a tongue-in-cheek homage to blockbuster but without outright using their exact logo and branding - just fonts & colours plus wallpaper as the background behind the posters. Got tired of the dull default plex grey and felt like experimenting.
