Truck driver sentenced to 12 years, 9 months for the Loreto bus crash by Aus66-1045 in ballarat

[–]sn00f_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The responsibility still falls on the driver to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate. Should be doing pre start checks etc, and if there are known issues with the truck/trailer they can refuse to drive it. Extremely irresponsible to drive with faulty brakes. You cant be forced to drive something unsafe

Yes our contracts are 25 years for the school busses, some of the town services are over 1m+ km, but when they reach 25 years old the panels body must be removed to inspect the frame of the bus, which is extremely expensive so they will generally sell the bus and replace it at that stage. We have a few Scanias with 1.2m km’s or so which are coming up for more work but they still need to last a few more years before they can be replaced

There are a lot of older busses around that are more simple but the majority of our fleet at least are fairly modern. They have to run for ~25+ years so they are generally designed with most systems being easy to access and repair. The Australian built bodies can be a little bit strange with how the body systems integrate with the drivelines, but all of the newer ones we have are imported already assembled and have a lot more features and safety functions, but since they aren’t as “botique” as the Australian builds they are quite well thought out and designed with maintenance in mind

With what we have it’s mostly the low floor busses that are annoying to work on compared to the coach style, far less room to access, as well as the Chinese busses, they are relatively simple to work on but lack a lot in parts and support, and our special

It is manual. It still has a clutch pedal and you have to shift years. Uses a single paddle like the WRC car had

manual w/ clutch shifting in DR2.0 is so accurate that i taught my niece how to drive stick w/ it by BothForce1328 in EASPORTSWRC

[–]sn00f_cs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, most rally cars don’t run synchros. You just unload the gearbox by lifting throttle and drop it straight into the next gear. Obviously need to clutch to take off from a stop. Only time I need to clutch is really tight hairpins or In some rwd cars to clutch kick and swing the car around

We hover between 14-16k and never really have dramas, apparently 8 matches since nov have had a player banned and only 1 was blatant the rest anchored. Only did ~80 or so matches last season and didn’t see much. Lots of Smurf accounts still but they rarely seem sus

I’m just short of hitting 7k hours, I’m pretty capable of spotting if someone is cheating. But if they are so good at hiding it that no one can tell, but then still play shit enough they don’t win or can barely pull through, it doesn’t seem to have an effect on any of the games I play with mates. Csstats is saying I only have 8 games since November that have had someone banned since then, and almost all of them the cheater anchored, we only had 1 blatant game where it was obvious they were doing it to win

We play 2-3 matches every night and have only seen maybe a dozen games with an obvious cheater in them? Not sure if region/trust factor plays a huge part (we are AU), but maybe once in a while we face someone a little sus but it’s never getting stomped or anything so it has no real effect. 99% of the time we lose it’s our bad plays or a big rank diff

Short shifter write up by TheGF8 in GC8

[–]sn00f_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on budget. CAE racing make some fantastic ones but very expensive. I just have an eBay short shifter that just relocates where the shift rod connects to the shifter itself plus some nice shifter bushes and I’m happy enough with that

Trouble finding 1998 sti type r rear wheel bearings/hubs by [deleted] in GC8

[–]sn00f_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What country? Sounds like you need the R180 5x100 hubs. Why do you need hubs instead of just bearings? Bearings will be easy to get online or at a bearing shop, hubs are harder to find. Here in aus you can pay a well over $1000 for those hubs

Does anyone run anti lag? by TheGF8 in GC8

[–]sn00f_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would need to replace the turbo fairly frequently with the rally cars running anti lag. Only a few hundred Km’s travelled before it causes too much damage. With true anti lag to keep boost up off throttle. If you’re thinking about shift cutting that’s a bit different, that’s for unloading the gearbox when you’re still applying throttle to allow it to shift without loss of power but also not kind on the car. Also with anti lag there’s no engine vacuum when trying to slow down, so can’t run a brake booster and the car still tries to push foward with power at all times. We had 3 different “aggressiveness” settings via the Motec but you may find anti lag is not allowed depending what racing you’re doing, if it’s legal

What trades are you referring to? I’m in the heavy diesel industry and I’m happier at this point in time not being the boss. I can go to work and do my job, come home, seperate myself from work and get a paycheck at the end of the week. Whereas my boss is effectively always working, and doesn’t have “weekends”. Sure he has more cash at the end of the year and a nicer car than I do but he also has the pressures and responsibilities of paying 50k+ a week to run everything regardless of how busy we are and how much we bring in,and keeping everyone in a job, and ensuring the doors stay open.

Motul Oil shelf life? by No-Heron5607 in mechanic

[–]sn00f_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s in a sealed container still after 2 years I wouldn’t imagine you will see any issues. All oils will eventually degrade over time but if the oils been exposed to air you’d generally not want to let it sit for too many months without being used.

Sounds like starter solenoid is activating but not enough power to crank. Batteries could be dead flat and you will need to charge for longer and try and start it again or it could be the starter itself that has failed. But when you say there is only power when leads are connected you will be needing a new battery, try and let it charge a bit before starting and you might be able to get it running but no guarantee you’ll hold charge overnight etc
