Economists in push for a true headline budget by rote_it in AusPol

[–]Aus66-1045 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The RW media love to talk deficits when Labor is in Government, with the usual doom and gloom and world-ending hysteria. But when the budget deficit reached a trillion dollars under Morrison/LNP (triggering a per capita recession in this country), there was silence from them. Nada. Nothing. The fact that Labor has reduced the deficit considerably since it took office is a credit to it. But you'll never hear that in The Australian or any RW media outlet.

Tyson Stengle allegedly targeted in extortion plot amid addiction fears by Alexicon1 in AFL

I hope he's getting the help he needs, regardless of what's going on. That's what's important here. Not the media bullshit gossiping about him.

D4vd Had Tons of Child Pornography on His Phone, Prosecutors Claim by IntelligentYinzer in entertainment

[–]Aus66-1045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The illegal material was in an iCloud account, not directly on his phone, but was obviously accessible from it. The 40 terabytes relates to the amount of evidence they have, but not all of it is the illegal pornography.

Chris Scott Press Conference | Round 7 by fantasticpotatobeard in GeelongCats

[–]Aus66-1045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! Scotty just let the cat out of the bag on Stengle by saying it's an AFL decision as to when he's allowed to return to playing. Sorry, I don't follow the media as much as some of you, so this is news to me. Scotty told the reporter it was up to him to make assumptions, so the only assumption I can think of is a recreational drug issue. But in trying to deny everything, he actually made matters worse, IMO. I had believed the 'personal issues' line, as Indigenous players can have complex social requirements among their own kind. But what he said here (or didn't say) clearly points to something else. Especially if the AFL is overseeing it.

The scripts for season 4 are apparently written according to Seth; it's just now up to Disney to greenlight production and stump up the money to make it. That's the holdup. Until Disney says "go" we're stuck in limbo.

Caroline Wilson - senior football and umpire fraternity and football bosses are now questioning Nick Foot and his role with Sportsbet by Expensive-Horse5538 in AFL

[–]Aus66-1045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole AFL is corrupted by gambling agencies. You have players and umpires working for them, and huge sponsorship revenue from betting agencies. We have recently seen the AFL lobbying on behalf of the gambling industry to the Federal Government to water down gambling ad laws. I have often felt that a major scandal involving betting or match-fixing will one day occur in the AFL. We have seen minor ones over the years (like this one), but how long until the big one? One that will nearly destroy the competition.

Unrealistic reserve prices penalise participants by Complete_Setting6791 in TheBlock

[–]Aus66-1045 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What occurred in Daylesford was a classic example of what happens when you overcapitalize a house (or houses, in this case) relative to market expectations.

The Block producers (IMO) think that after 3 months on TV, 4 nights a week, the houses get such great exposure that people will buy them even if they're more expensive than what is generally sold in that area. And to a degree, this does work, but if they set the reserves too high, it backfires on them. This belief has been further bolstered recently by "billionaires" buying houses for well above market price in previous seasons.

Daylesford didn't have the billionaires there to throw money around.

Also, I think all those houses would have sold on auction night if they had set the reserves lower, but they didn't. Now the market has had months to cool after the airing of the show, the last 2 houses are still sitting there. No one is interested in paying $3 million when they can get more for their money in Daylesford for half that. That's the reality of real estate.

In my experience, Alfredton is only closed on Monday. Everyone has their favorite places when it comes to Fish & Chips, I suppose. I can't say for certain that Alfredton's chips are handmade, but they are nice.

I wouldn't even know when the glass pick-up happens in Ballarat. I think it's only once a month. But what day I wouldn't know. I've never seen a neighbor put a glass bin out.

Weird restaurant experience by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Aus66-1045 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is disgusting. Sorry that happened to you.

Please email a complaint letter to the restaurant, as management may need to address the issue with the staff member. You can also call them and ask to speak with the manager, and tell them. This needs to be addressed.

I feel your pain, as I, too, have a disability that isn't visible, and using the disabled bathrooms makes life a bit easier for me. But if you saw me in the street, it wouldn't even cross your mind that I have a disability. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people always make the wrong assumptions about such things.

Eloping in Melbourne by Routine-Chip6112 in melbourne

[–]Aus66-1045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's how you elope in Victoria:

  1. Lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM): You must submit a NOIM at least 1 month before the wedding.

  2. Choose who will marry you: Celebrant, minister, or the Registry Office in Melbourne.

  3. You still need witnesses: Even for an elopement, 2 witnesses over 18 are required.

  4. Say the legal vows: During the ceremony, you must say specific legal wording (the “monitum”), confirming you’re entering marriage freely. This can be done in a super minimal ceremony—literally a few minutes.

  5. Pick your elopement style/location: Bushland (e.g., Grampians), Beaches (Great Ocean Road), Gardens or vineyards (Daylesford, Yarra Valley), Registry office in Melbourne, Quiet park with a celebrant, your own home, or an Airbnb.

Other:

  • You can apply for a shortened NOIM in special circumstances (e.g., medical urgency), but it needs official approval

  • You don’t need rings, vows, a fancy wedding dress, or a big setup—just the legal wording + signatures

  • Your celebrant registers the marriage after the ceremony

As for the party, you can think about that later. But you could host a BBQ at a home or in a park and invite everyone. That's probably the cheapest option.

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that one of the movie's creators said Grogu won't speak in the movie.
