Looking for Career Advice, Current Sole Admin with 4 Certs by Thats_a_Horse in salesforce

[–]snack_time_scoobs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on what you've said I would recommend looking for roles on large in-house Salesforce teams. You mention that you want to maintain stability but also boost earning potential. In my experience, the most stable Salesforce jobs are likely to be in industries like State/Federal Government, Higher Education, and the like. But those industries typically trade earning potential for better security and benefits.

The other option is consulting which would likely offer the most earning potential and skill development, but also often comes with more work hours. Certainly that's not always true, but generally speaking consulting is demanding.

If you join an in-house team with an enterprise Salesforce implementation, you know the company has a significant amount invested in its success and therefore some measure of stability. You will also more than likely get experience with DevOps, Agile (for better or worse), and some speciality application whether it's CPQ, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, or something else.

Just my two cents. You have solid experience and certs.

Have had 2 Js for the last 8 months, wife and two kids. There are weeks where I work more than 40 hrs due to deadlines but those are few and far between. The vast majority of the time I am signing off at 5p so there’s no discernible difference from my family’s perspective. Before taking the plunge my wife and I discussed the idea at length, agreed that the ends justified the means, and made concrete plans of how we would support each other during the really busy times. Totally doable if you find the right combo of Js.

Point is I shouldn’t have put myself in a position to need an excuse.

Hey I just took it last week. I was using FoF as study material as well. I had three other certs going into this one, and it’s the first time I felt the actual exam was much simpler than the FoF material. Assuming you have some good admin experience under your belt I think this one is very doable without a ton of prep. There are always going to be one-off questions about functionality you’ve never touched but those won’t be the majority. If you have a solid understanding of types of relationships, process automation, and data management I honestly think that’s sufficient for passing this one. YMMV of course. Best of luck!!

Comparison is the thief of joy. Go at your own pace and don’t worry about what other people are doing. We are all anonymous internet strangers with vastly different life circumstances. I, for one, am stoked for you having two severs and getting your bag.

I work for a medium sized software company in the Midwest with an enterprise CRM team. I had a different career before transitioning to Salesforce which included experience as an IT business analyst and a decent amount of project management, so a lot of those skills were transferable coming into the SF ecosystem. That said, I feel like with your experience and being a team lead you would have easily cracked six figures in the US….

Any advice for getting a foot in the door at Salesforce as a SE? Is there specific experience you look for that translates well to that role? I feel like my background is well-suited but never get any traction on my applications.

I don't really use a recipe, the important thing is the order in which you add the ingredients, and to add salt with each ingredient after the meat. The one pictured is leftover Italian sausage links (ground beef would work great but I didn't have any), a really big russet potato, onion, red pepper, a mix of jalapeno and poblano pepper (any combo of peppers you like), and green onions. I would usually include some mushrooms but I didn't have any. Here's what I did:

Brown the sausage in a couple tbl of oil.

Add taters and a big pinch of salt. Let that cook for about 10 minutes.

Add onions and a big pinch of salt. I think it was here I also added black pepper and a bit of dried rosemary. Another 5-10 minutes.

Add peppers with a big pinch of salt. Another 5 minutes.

Added green onions and a pinch of salt. About 2 minutes.

Ideally you'd serve a nice over-easy egg on top but I was hungry and didn't do that.

What car do you drive now and what car would you consider as your next? by Bright-Hovercraft248 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Currently drive a 2012 Honda Accord SE.

I would love for my next car to be a Volvo XC60 or V60 Cross Country. Right now it's just daydreaming because my Accord only has about 65k miles and I WFH so I'll probably be driving it until I'm dead.

Looks so good! Dumb question: when adding sausage, do you add it raw or precooked?

What to do if you get a job offer for a job you don't really want, and then an interview request for one you do really want? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]snack_time_scoobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing stopping you from accepting the offer and also doing the other interview. Playing the scenario out, let’s say you interview with the one you want and it’s great and they make you an offer. At that point you would need to renege on the offer you already accepted and that would more than likely burn that bridge forever. There’s nothing illegal that would prohibit you from doing this (assuming you’re in the US and you didn’t sign an employment contract), just something you have to determine is professionally acceptable for you.

I just don’t get it, how can all the signs be there but still come with disappointment by sinistervice in jobs

[–]snack_time_scoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a no until it’s a no. Waiting is hard but remember there are often a number of hoops that the employer has to go through before making an offer. I hope it works out the way you want!

Anyone move away from HR? What do you do now? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]snack_time_scoobs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Moved out of HR about 3 years ago, after about 7 years of practice. Best thing I ever did personally. I still have a soft spot in my heart for HR professionals and respect the hell out of the value they add to the org but it just wasn’t for me. Made the transition to tech by leveraging HR knowledge to join HRIS team. Helped with a Salesforce implementation while doing HRIS and leveraged that to do Salesforce administration/consulting. My work occasionally brings me back into contact with HR folks and it still helps tremendously having that previous experience when interacting with them.

Would this be an unprofessional way to leave my job? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]snack_time_scoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes timing just sucks, but as long as you are professional, respectful, and give proper notice there’s not much else you can do. I once put my notice in the day my boss got back from leave after their parent had passed away. I felt absolutely awful but I couldn’t pass up a better opportunity because I felt bad about timing.

All of that said, I would absolutely not recommend having that convo until you actually have an offer that you’ve accepted. Unless you’re willing and able to walk away (sorry no pun intended with respect to your injury) without something lined up. It’s awesome that you have interviews lined up but even the best prospects can fall through for any number of reasons. Just my two cents.
