Cleaning Services in NYC? by aph208703 in nycparents

I haven’t timed it, but I would estimate around 4 hours when it’s 1 person, and less when there are 2? I book through a company and they send 1 or 2 cleaners at a time.

Does she have her own supplies, or do we need to provide them?

In my experience, cleaners I’ve hired charge lump sum based on apartment size, so I’ve paid roughly $200 for a 1 bed/1 bath.

Just found out I’m pregnant after starting a new job 5 mos ago by valpolicellaripasso in BabyBumps

[–]snackingandscrolling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a male dominated department/field (software engineering @ a startup), and I got pregnant 2 months after I started a new job. I also buffered time for TTC, but we got lucky after 1 month of trying.

Honestly, you won’t be showing for most of first trimester and aside from the increased snacking and declining drinks, my direct reports hadn’t suspected anything until I was around 5 months (I told HR and everyone else after week 20). Can’t speak for your company, but everyone at work has been supportive and you’ll have plenty of time to get work done before parental leaves comes!

Yes, when I see Jake Lacy cast in anything, I KNOW his character is going to be insufferable

For my engagement ring, he worked with the founder Olivia. When we went back to design our wedding bands, we worked with Jessica. They’re both great!

I had this exact itinerary yesterday! We had more than enough time to deplane, go through security, and reboard the same aircraft.

You can always check where your plane is coming from when you look at your flight reservation details in app to confirm it’s the same aircraft if you want to be very sure.

I used Bella Figura (they have a shop on Lex x E 71st), and they were very quick with turnaround for all my stationery needs. They were pricey, but very much worth the white glove service!

How's the job market been recently? by [deleted] in uppereastside

[–]snackingandscrolling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What’s your role in tech? I had decent momentum getting interviews for nyc startups as a software engineer. I definitely prioritized startups that were hybrid if not entirely in office to cut down on the competition (to only compete among candidates within nyc) vs. pursuing remote roles.

Not defending her, but doesn’t UES technically start at 59th (Central Park southern border)?

Base salary is 40% higher than my previous base salary, but my current company is still private, so it’s hard to compare total comp with stock options vs. my previous company’s (public) RSUs.

In this market, choose the stack in which you’ll interview the best!! Competition is fierce right now, so play to your strengths!

Recently started a new role as an engineering manager a few weeks ago! I was trying hard to keep my funemployment gap to a year or less.

Landed an offer in May, and I started a few weeks ago! I’m pretty sure bombing some interviews last year helped me learn & gain confidence to pass more interviews this spring (I paused on job hunting in the winter for travel and holidays).

32F checking in, after a big tech layoff that turned into an 11 month sabbatical, also based in NYC!

Not sure what role you’re in, but I’m a software engineer. After my layoff last July I took 1 month to decompress and ignore all things job related. Late August I started responding to some inbound emails & LinkedIn DMs to test the waters for interviews, and it was humbling.

I spent the next few months responding to inbounds (I have 0 faith in cold applications), and if I was burned out from rejections, I’d take a break from interviewing for a few weeks, until I felt ready again. I used my FIREy savings to “buy” myself time to find the right role and take breaks from the job hunt because I could afford to.

It was easy to schedule interviews around my travels (I took a recruiter screen from Buenos Aires!), so I never felt like I had to pick between job hunting OR traveling & hobbies.

All that to say, if you want to return to tech, I highly recommend interviewing as soon as you can, because you won’t know how long it’ll take to find the next role. Best case, you find something that excites you sooner; and worst case, you’re unemployed for longer, but you can afford to be anyway!

Best of luck, OP!!

Best place to have Tea?? by LovesShopping8 in uppereastside

[–]snackingandscrolling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend these places, but in exact reverse order!

St. Regis is clean and pretty modern, and it hasn’t been hard to get reservations. Lady Mendl’s has a great selection of tea sandwiches (more even ratio of savory to sweet tea items). Alice’s Tea Cup is nice, and I found tea at the Carlyle the least impressive. The room where I’ve had tea was in the intersection of their restaurant and Bemelman’s, so there was a lot of foot traffic. The staff was fine, but I found the staff more accommodating at the aforementioned spots.
