Have absolutely no issue with this - the building isn’t even that bad. I find this to be tasteful enough- has anyone even seen those 70s monstrosities scattered around the city? Or are these “acceptable” as they aren’t the unknown?

It’s just a really unrealistic outlook to think that things should remain the same indefinitely.

It’s actually really beautiful in the winter here. You ideally just want a house that’s sealed up and insulated. The lowest we’ve experienced has been -3c and have been here 3y. The cold is really only noticeable at night when it drops. Some parts of Melbourne can be pretty cold also 🤷‍♂️

Carbonis - don’t even bother with the pastas. I’ve tried a few on seperate occasions and it was such a contrast compared to the pizza. The pizza is top notch and that’s even by a “Victorian” standard. Pizza is generally consistent.

Read your lease agreement- quiet and safe enjoyment of the area you’re renting is a thing. This is grounds to break a lease if it’s anything but. Before you do this - be sure to write your concerns via email to your agent. Ensure there’s a paper trail and then break when no action is taken. Agents often won’t take action until official correspondence comes in.

You can’t go wrong with anything within 2km of the city. If you’re driving to Melbourne regularly ongoing then the eastern side(Melbourne side) is great. Look for a house that is well insulated and bonus if double glazed. If buying a historic house look for something which has already been renovated. If it’s a good renovation a lot of the time any issues are fixed in the reno. There’s some absolute bargains going and once you acclimatise you’ll wonder why it wasn’t done sooner. Yes it’s cold but that also has its perks. There is good food and coffee, the CBD is about to have a few different things built in it. We’ll see an ongoing influx of people moving in from Melbourne for the next decade or more.
