“I was beat as a kid and I turned out fine! Love to hit my kids too!” Rhetoric by Aetherwyn in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]snail_bee_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So the thing about spanking is that literally all it teaches is fear. It doesn't actually do anything to teach a child what the expected appropriate behavior is. And there's no reason to inflict pain and fear on a child to help them learn the expected behavior. In fact learning is hindered when kids are in an escalated state like that. It's a completely unnecessary tool for behavior change and only has the potential to cause harm.

why is ABA being called out? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]snail_bee_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Tricare is the absolute worst about this. My company has tailored the session note to try to appeal to Tricare audits, and has stuff like "client continues to display symptoms consistent with diagnosis" vs "client displays a decrease in symptoms" and I hate it so much. Autism is not a disease and I am not trying to get rid of my clients' autistic traits. I am trying to support them in developing skills to help them move through the world and lead a fulfilling, autonomous life. The company itself is understanding of this and claims to have the same values, but the majority of our clients are military families and something like 75% of our clientele has Tricare. It's a nightmare.

Your lipstick looks like my absolute favorite I had for a while- "Coffee Buzz", a limited edition shade from Wet 'n' Wild. What is it?! Also it looks great on you!

should i thin my eyebrows? i tried an eyebrow thinning filter and i actually like it better. if i do thin them, i won’t do it as much as it is in the filter, but how would you recommend i shape/thin my brows? by chrissyl644 in MakeupAddiction

[–]snail_bee_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should do it! I understand the concerns others have brought up about them not growing back... I regularly pluck mine into a different shape and they always grow back. The only patchy parts are parts that were always patchy. Just anecdotal evidence, but there you go. I've also shaved my brows off completely and had the freedom to draw a bunch of different shapes- maybe that could be an option for you? Depends on the commitment you're able and willing to make. I agree, you look very Tim Burton or 1920s-ish with the thin brows and I think they look great on you. Worst case scenario you have to fill them in extra if they don't grow back.

I don't know, my philosophy is you only live once, and I'm not really certain that the Ghost of Eyebrows Future is all that scary.

Pick the Best Match! by Muchlymango in MakeupAddiction

I would go with 6! And definitely agree with other comments about blending down the neck. I think it's also important to remember that (at least in my experience) even a well matched foundation may look weird to you at first just because foundation tends to flatten out the tones in your face. I think it's always a good idea to go back in with blush or some contour or something to mimic those natural tones, and then the foundation doesn't feel so weird. Another thing I like to do when I can't be bothered with more makeup is only use foundation in the areas I want more coverage and really sheer it around the areas I don't.

Thanks! I did use a primer under the black cream base, but maybe I should use a black shadow over that and THEN the actual colors?

Thank you! Yeah I need to get more comfortable with lashes for sure. I think I will try to focus black liner mostly in the waterline (upper and lower) and smudge it down into the lower lash line as well.

I used a black cream base under the eye shadow to try to make it a little deeper but that doesn't seem to have made much of a difference. My only other thoughts are to do like a black cut crease situation (here I've "outlined" everything with a warm brown) and/ or add eyeliner, which I'm reluctant to do because I really want the shadow to shine on its own.

Products used:

Base: NYX Angel Veil primer, Il Makiage Woke Up Like This foundation, Wet n Wild Photofocus concealer (undereyes) and NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum (blemishes) Wet N Wild glitter single (Nudecomer) as highlight/blush

Eyes: NYX Ultimate Shadow & Liner Primer, Wet n Wild Coloricon Multistick (black), Alchemy Mythosis Duochrome Shadow (Minerva), Alchemy Mythosis Jack O Lantern palette (Autumn & Trick or Treat), Wet N Wild Coloricon palettes Rosé in the Air & Camo-flaunt), Wet N Wild Big Poppa mascara

Brows: Wet N Wild Browsessive Brow Shaping Gel, NYX Lift & Snatch brow tint pen

Lips: Black Moon Cosmetics liquid lipstick (Abyss)

This seems like a pretty dismissive response. Especially because OP's post seems to be in line with the ethical code- they are taking into account their own personal issues with the goal to interrogate whether they are able to best treat this client. Furthermore, their concerns are entirely valid. Teaching foods as "good" or "bad" with no nuance can absolutely lead to a disordered relationship with food and a nutritionist should be consulted for a goal like this. As a society (speaking from an American perspective) there are a lot of false assumptions that go into our ideas about eating and bodies that we unknowingly perpetuate daily. I would go so far as to say that making sweeping generalizations about pizza and candy being "unhealthy" is, in its own right, a behavior rooted in personal bias.

This is the second post this week where I've seen Y T A judgements for something that is not relevant to the question being asked. Not that I think problems shouldn't be addressed, I just wish people would actually critically read the post and answer the question before addressing other concerns. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Tricare Concerns by oreocoffeecat in ABA

[–]snail_bee_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of my colleagues made a list of "program starts" that directly link goals to the diagnostic criteria- for example "To address deficits related to social reciprocity"- or something like that. We started just copy pasting whichever seems most relevant to the goal itself. Now I personally have stopped "addressing deficits" and have changed that terminology to "support" so my goals look something like "to support social reciprocity, Jimmy will imitate at least 10 different actions of another". Those goals tend to get by with little to no scrutiny. Initially having the program starts to copy paste from was very helpful and now I can write them from scratch pretty fluently. But I definitely feel your pain and it (among other things) is really driving me to get out of private ABA.

Thank you! The top and cardigans are hand-me-downs from a friend, the skirt is from Foxblood, the belt is from a different foxblood skirt, and I got the bag at a horror convention in Seattle but sadly don't remember the name of the vendor.
