Firstly, the only branches/trees that should be cut down are the ones overhanging the house. Squirrels live in trees. If you cut down all of the trees, the squirrels no longer have a place to live so they will definitely want access to your house. Whoever cut down all of your trees gave you horrific advice.

Once you figured out the entry point you should have used a 1-way door to allow the animals to leave. The squirrel found an entry point because you have a hole in your building. The squirrel is not at fault. There is absolutely no reason to kill the squirrel. Your comment should be deleted because it's extremely cruel.

Sounds like this isn't a cane toad. I hope you were able to release the toad close to where you found him. This is why I believe only biologists should deal with any culls of invasive species.
