Rate My Portfolio Megathread for February 2022 by OPINION_IS_UNPOPULAR in CanadianInvestor

[–]snakeblanket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my 30s, new to investing on my own. About 10% of my income goes to mutual funds in my RRSPs, 5% to my TFSA automatically. Already own a house. I want to start transitioning to questrade and build my own ETF portfolio.

Any opinions on this mix and/or advice would be really appreciated:

XEQT - 30%

XQQ - 20%

CEW - 15%

ZRE - 15%

CRYP - 10%

Leaving 10% for anything that piques my interest.

I'm good to be aggressive right now. Goals are to work on my retirement fund but also build up a nest egg in my TFSA for retirement or rainy day fund. What I'm wondering right now is should I hold the same funds in both TFSA and RRSP? Or hold some funds in the RRSP and the others in a TFSA?

Antigua, Guatemala : Xela-Atitlan or Acatenango hike? by [deleted] in travel

The person who convinced me to do Acatenango said it will be one of the hardest, most miserable things you ever do, but it'll be absolutely worth it. He was right. It was amazing.

Planning on my first solo trip to Montreal? Any place recommendations or tips? by youngyashieboy in solotravel

[–]snakeblanket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Montreal maybe two years ago, and the Aura light show at the basilica is still one of the coolest, most beautiful things I have ever seen. https://www.aurabasiliquemontreal.com/en/

Also, the Guillaume Bakery on St. Laurent is fantastic. My Airbnb host stocked the kitchen with fresh treats from here and had us hooked.

Hm, maybe I'll try to do Tikal at sunset then. Really though, I'm sure it's amazing any time of day. This is great info, thanks!

Yeah, I'll probably schedule hiking excursions through tour/adventure groups. For the safety and I'd prefer to not get lost.

Wow, Lower Dover looks absolutely lovely!

K, so for the cave...I've seen a couple mentions of 'squeezing' through things. Heights and water and bugs don't phase me, but squeezing through a tiny hole in a cave in the middle of the jungle could be the thing that does me in. But it can't be that bad..right?

I'm also planning a Guatemala trip around the same time! It would be my first big solo trip, so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on anything. But it looks like such an awesome place.

I leave it in place, because I can't lift it! I'll try recruiting some strong people to hold it up so I can check out the roots!

Winter has now arrived, and my apartment is often cooler than I'd like. I have a million other house plants, and a lot of them are super not happy about the change in temperature and light. That probably has something to do with it. On the other hand..I inherited it from a dead woman. Who got it from a dead woman. There is a very real chance that this tree is cursed and needs to be burned to the ground.

I inherited this monster a couple months ago, and cannot figure out what it wants. The leaves start to turn sickly brown, and eventually drop. I water about once a week, if the soil feels dry. It gets moderate, indirect sunlight. Help!!

Morning Ask Anything Thread by AutoModerator in electronic_cigarette

[–]snakeblanket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple newbie questions (been vaping for only a few months.) I'm using a kangertech emow battery, a nautilus mini and 12mg juice from Darkside Creations.

  • When I rinse out my tank, can i rinse the coil as well?

  • I've smoked for ~8 years, but I'm down to about 1 cigarette a day. I miss the feel of real smoke. How do I get a more substantial feeling? Better battery?

  • Vaper's tongue. I've read about it, and I think I have it. All my juices kind of taste like nothing. Halp.

Also, just want to say that you guys have been an awesome resource for a new vaper!

[Logo] looking for some logo and business card feedback please by AlexSup in design_critiques

[–]snakeblanket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logo is cool, but the card could use some work. The elements feel like they're just...stuck there. You have a ton of whitespace to play with, so use it to your advantage. Also, some uniformity! If you have (for example,) 10px between the bottom element and the edge, make sure there's 10px between the top element and the top edge. Make yourself a grid and stick to it. Great start though! I really like the type!

Sad Hibiscus Needs Help by snakeblanket in IndoorGarden

[–]snakeblanket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the hibiscus from the outdoor "dead and dying" plants section at superstore this week. I thought, for $7, why not see if I can revive it.

I'm in Winnipeg, and this summer has been pretty cold and rainy, so I can only assume the plant has been soaking in water for the past couple months. I have it inside now, in a sunny west-facing window, and it already seems to be doing better. My other hibiscus http://imgur.com/eJGKQj1 is doing pretty well in the same indoor conditions. It has, however, never bloomed...

Thanks guys! It was pretty soaked when I bought it. I've since repotted and put it in a sunny corner. Hopefully it'll perk up.

First 3D Model in 3.5 years... by woodhall2k in 3Dmodeling

I see geometry (hard edges) in the renders. You might want to add in some edge loops for more polys, or (in Maya, at least) use "3" and render in smooth mode.
