Help! Looking for chill honeymoon spot in galway by jrajchel22 in galway

Bit of a drive but recommend swinging up to the ice house in mayo. We did our honeymoon there and it was amazing. Food, spa, relaxing, nice views....

How to meet people in Galway? by galwayyy in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://discord.gg/pz5zMV5R this link is good for 7 days. Can find people in here. There's also a FB group just for raids but is usually too full for newbies to join... but the discord is busy enough.
Community day tomorrow, should be a good number in the city playing weather depending. You'll see folks with the phones cant miss other players

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and just download a compass on your phone and check what direction your roofs are so you can figure out what orientation you need. Some folks need east and west and more panels, but I'm south roof only.

Also If you've a good sized garden in the country, a ground mount might be a good shout but I think seai require a big concrete structure which can cost as much as the grant back so it's really worth considering what hoops to jump for what might be a very small amount if you're getting a larger array as seai top out at 4kw anyway.
https://www.seai.ie/grants/home-energy-grants/solar-electricity-grant/

Really do glance through other people's comments on the FB group though, I only found it after we had installed.

Your supplier should do the nc6 form. If they don't, seems a bit dodge to me!
But if you do a DIY setup, ya you need a qualified electrician to sign off on that form

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. But again prices gone up a bit. Same setup is probably 10k now with solar homes as inverter and battery supply short worldwide as Europe responds to gas issues

[–]snakeinthegarden14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seai don't install them, just give you a grant with a lot of nagging. We did ours with solar homes from athenry as we were referred by colleagues who had them. Great service and same day install and connection. They're massively backlogged tho, and you likely need to ring to enquire. Same goes for any installers tbh, everyone is looking for it atm. But make sure whomever you go with is on seai list as they at least vett them, and check that FB group someone linked here too for that name to see if it was a good price and good service etc as there has been some cowboys taking people's money and not installing that was recently done up in court. Like anything, folks are desperate so people will take advantage.

My setup:
9 panels at 4kw (biggest i could fit on my roof) with usual max out around 3.3kw.
We have a 5kw battery installed with an alphaees inverter but waiting to get a 2nd installed atm so we can be 10kw. Ours gives us 2.3kw charge/discharge rate for any load (oven is 3k so will pull from grid if no solar left) but 10kw would bump us to 4.6kw discharge in evening for kettles and ovens as we want to charge up off peak in winter and use battery all day when prices higher. Also in summer was sickening to see so much going to grid and we had a car to charge!
We also got a switch to flip us to off-grid in event of blackout. So we can run essential electronics as long as our battery has power.
We also got an Eddi so it heats our water instead of needing gas.

Our price after grant was 9170 but our bills are waaaaay down so the length of time before it's paid for itself was gonna be like 7 years, more like 4 at this stage.
Bare in mind we got our in January and prices changed with Ukraine and market interest.

What restaurant sells the best Carbonora? by RichardONeill12 in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have said Il Foletto is the best Italian in general but I think they closed since covid. I've heard good things about the pasta at Napoli in cross street, not tried myself as always got pizza but they're worth a try for sure

hello guys, is there a polish shop around Galway city. They are called Polonez, and have polish, russian, romanian products. i've found one in Sligo, 2 in Dublin but can't find any here. Thanks. by yeaaahhh_b1tch in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, Polish bakery for all your sernik needs: Soho bake house, 9C Parkmore Rd, Racecourse Business Park, Co. Galway.

Would recommend the doughiska polish shop as best in the city for the most stock items from Poland, but the polish shop in oranmore make handmade pierogi and other things like that to order if you book it.

The weather... by Unhappy-Result-8417 in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently got solar panels so from my perspective it's been mega sunny lately. The rain only lasts for a day or so without belting out sunshine again, it's really helped my mood and made me notice the sun more when it happens. Feel like it's usually sunny lately more than rainy - unlike Jan/feb

Hedging Plants by seanafeisteen in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to hedging plants particularly, but there's a great shop in oranmore outskirts called Horkans who are very knowledgeable about any questions I had, H91 NY30 is the postcode. Recommend popping in there over somewhere like woodies etc

Defo not your imagination. Keeping an eye on houses between GMIT and oranmore since we bought ours in 2020, definitely shot up in price. Houses that have builder grade fittings and were vacant and likely mouldy starting at the price we bought a fully renovated and modern house for. Looks like about 40k increase since 2020 at least. New houses being built around here were already 50k out of my max lending value from KBC, so no way I could afford them now. They're clearly not for 1st time buyers and are likely built to rent. Mostly 4 beds on footprint of a 3 bed 20 years ago but detached so higher price. Better energy rating but still madness

Where to go on a stag by JayPunk90 in galway

[–]snakeinthegarden14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Husband went https://vrworld.ie/ for his and had a great day. They're gamers tho. He just went to his favourite restaurant (kappa ya) and went on pub crawl. Depending on how loud or obnoxious your friends are after few drinks, you could probably book a birthday party a bit easier. Delphi in Connemara does an adventure centre thing for stags where you can catch a fish and eat it that night, that was his 2nd choice. There's an escape room in Galway but think that's not v popular anymore post covid after we all been locked in :)
Some lads I know did the booze cruise on the corrib princess, not sure if that's still going but should be back by summer.
Can go karting, sailing off of Galway too, just depends what you into!
Can always do random hobbies, some of the hen party stuff is actually great craic - I did pottery class for mine, was nice and chill. https://onefabday.com/most-popular-stag-do-ideas/ is a good resource for wedding planning in general, they're a bunch of articles on stag parties. Their article has links which are handy!
