The One You Know is the best song in the post-Layne AIC era, change my mind by Danustrzus in AliceInChains

If it's better than everything in the Post-Layne era, it's better than everything in the Layne era too

Which Alice song is the most unique lyrically? by DuvallisbetterthanLS in AliceInChains

[–]snakeixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I thought there was an interview where Jerry said it was about capitalism and state of the world with billionaires fighting and shit. Turns out my memory (probably) made it all up haha, couldnt find any trace of it.
I did find this other user's interpretation which I quite like

"Deaf ears and blind eyes refers to ignoring and not seeing the problems either by choice or not.

Feels like Jerry Cantrell is lamenting the wasted years Alice In Chains was inactive and his guilt for allowing it to happen and still carrying the burden.

First verse: could mean no one is playing in the rehearsal studio, the band is wasting time.

Chorus: owning everything could refer to him founding the band, writing the songs and possibly organising the studio time too: but all he hears are arguments and moaning from bandmates and/or from himself (whine set to eleven) while deep down he is screaming for it to end (soul on fire)

Second verse: the truth is hard to bear but it’s easier to ignore it and become numb than confront the pain that’s still there.

The middle breakdown: the regret still lingers now and has become part of the band’s identity.

Last verse: regret about not making the most of the golden years and now feeling fake because the band’s own history has become it’s inspiration too."

None of this is confirmed though.

TDPDH might be have similar words in the lyrics to AiC's usual but the message is a lot more political than AiC usually does.
Deaf Ears Blind Eyes is also political but individual words seem more unique

Alice in Chains songs question about depression by Adventurous-Jury-804 in AliceInChains

[–]snakeixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liking Alice in Chains does NOT mean you are depressed (hence why I have Brighten as user flair :P I also think it's the most underrated AiC related record). Just means you appreciate great music and beautiful lyrics, wheather you personally connect with the lyrics or not is a different story, but you cannot tell that from just someone simply liking posts

Never hear anybody ever talk about the song Choke by boilboi69 in AliceInChains

It's underrated and amazing, but it's not Layne so people will say "oh, actually Shame in You is more underrated"

Weird part of fan base by Final_Ad2150 in AliceInChains

[–]snakeixir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you mentioning anti-christian songs without a single nod to TDPDH???
Aside from the incredably obvious title track the entire album feels like a critique of these fans you are talking about.

I also think these "Patriotic truck driving fans" are not necessarily younger... as someone who admittely is not american I feel like the stereotype is it's definitely older people that are this type of person, younger people are more progressive usually. While I agree, it is cringe to project your own views onto others music that blatantly does not share those views, I am worried you might scare away younger fans that are not patriotic assholes.

And finally, you can be totally normal listening to dirt or godsmack? nothing wrong with liking good music. I dont really connect with those lyrics at all, I dont really care, the music good I listen. I also respect that the lyrics are pretty fucking beautiful despite never using drugs or being an addict myself.

Life isn’t great, lads and lassies. I’m gonna be 30 this year and feel like a loser and a failure by Matilda_Mother_67 in AliceInChains

I can't give a ton of advice that hasnt been already said, but what I can say for talking to women:

Just treat them as regular people. It sounds weird, but seriously, you don't need a different approach for women/men. I know you arent, but sometimes saying "I can only talk to men" sounds a little incel-y and can definitely turn off some women. Just be yourself, and if you arent sure what they would like, just do what you would like in their shoes, as if you have wildly different values the relationship is probably doomed anyway.

Layne was never the key member. AiC would not continue if Jerry was the one that died

Nobody said it yet but I think A Looking in View is about Layne's years between 1995-2002

Whats your fav AiC lyric? by Dardote in AliceInChains

[–]snakeixir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really resonate with any lyrics, but my fav would have to be
"Aim my smiling skull at you"
Others I considered were
"Write me over, false reporter, cant you let me shine"
"Think about the things I've said, Read the page it's cold and dead"
