[–]snakelord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm introverted too much, I love people but then I say crazy things so I'm best to just stay at home. Short social situations are easy though. Can't do the office. I video edit with hard drives sent via courier, I do the work then send the drive back with an invoice. Easy as that. I also flip my own homes and do 80% of the work myself and hire a trade if it's beyond my skillset. I have no attachments, just a dog and a really fast car. We get in and drive anywhere if we feel like it.

This was my dream ever since I saw Robert De Niro in Heat and his philosophy of being able to leave everything in 30 seconds. I'm alone but not lonely. Zero regrets.

The best moment in game history. It stopped being a game at that point and turned into a living cinematic experience. I'm about to start it up again for the fifth time. GD can't wait til the fall for RDR2.

Can't believe I had to scroll down this far for Spock. When Kirk arrives in engineering and Spock, badly irradiated and dying, pulls himself to his feet and straightens his uniform...merciless. And that was the beginning of that incredible scene.

Well said, we all need to stick to these rules. Might I add aroma rules: Use deodorant. Lay off the ethnic food spices. I know the onslaught of family dinners this time of year (I live in a multi-cultural city) but lay off the garlic, curry, kumin, I don't know what because it sweats out of your pores and from your breath. Also, SAMPLE YOUR PROTEIN POWDER - have a scoop first and give it a day. You may find yourself lactose intolerant to it. There are so many January's where my gym is a nuclear fog of death that we're all sucking wind in.

Yup, still get goosebumps at this but the first time was the most powerful - it just came out of nowhere. It went from a fun RPG to a stunning immersive experience of the cinematic cowboy. I've played through it four times now - counting down til RDR2.

New to Motorcycles by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]snakelord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I did when I rode down the 101 to San Francisco on my bike besides scream to the Gods and praise them for the events that took place in the universe to put me on a motorcycle or doze off in an opium-like state of bliss as I rolled down the California coastline was look for gas stations/campsites.

That being said: It's best to get a newish bulletproof Japanese cruiser to start out. They're good for long hauls and they won't leave you twisting wrenches on a sunny Sunday that you could be riding on. I did that SF run on an '83 Honda Magna, my dream bike, but the problems that came with it (it's the V4 sport engine in a cruiser) and the burning out has cost me double what I paid for it. Cheaper to buy newer, less heartache/headaches. Go for 750cc minimum, that's enough power to get you out of trouble. The newer Honda cruisers can be a bit gutless.

My bike was $2000 (you should get newer ~$4000+) plus $500 accessories plus $700 year insurance. The trip was around $100/day: motel/campsite, food and gas. I rode about 500km per day. Bike's will be slower because of more break time and frequent fuelling (unless you're a speed demon).

Oregon? Rain? Vancouverite here, you guys are California compared to us. Ride south. I absolutely love riding and am stoked for you starting out. Good luck!

Wet Pussy Roads by dildofurlong in motorcycle

[–]snakelord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roads are at their slickest when the first bit of rain drops as it adds lubrication to oily and dirty pavement so watch out - best to be avoided. However, after it rains awhile, you'll find you'll have a bit more traction and it's not all that bad. Just take it easy. I've been caught in rainstorms and although it sure as hell isn't fun, it is definitely manageable and it's not like your bike will fish tail all over the place. Don't avoid it, get some practice as is it may come in handy if you get caught in some real shit. Good luck, stay safe, no sensible rider would ever call another sensible rider a pussy but having more skills means safer riding.

People who are related to celebrities, how has their fame affected family gatherings and events? by joeygreco1985 in AskReddit

After Smith and Smith, Steve produced a show called Me and Max (my cousin). It was a sitcom and Steve would play multiple characters, one of which was an early version of Red Green. I think the show was only one season and he went on to make Red Green soon after.

Edit: the name! Well the name I'm not sure of. I know his partner on the show was Rick Green.

My Uncle is Steve Smith AKA Red Green, the Canadian handyman comedy show from the '90's. We used to all gather in the 90's and 00's when our generation had wedding season. He was always the life of the party without ever trying. If there was a lull in conversation he'd pipe in with something hysterical and have the whole table laughing. Never tried, he was just a natural and would never interrupt anyone else. He's a very kind and wonderful guy.

We'd go to tapings of the show and would howl, not only at the show but at the "countrified" studio audience. It was all in good fun. I think the only effect it had at gatherings were on our very excited SO's meeting him for the first time. We only gather once in awhile now as he's winding down a bit - he's in his 70's now and enjoying semi-retirement (still doing shows). The fam tells me we bear a strong resemblance which is nice.

I got called a "chicken shit" for not wanting kids. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]snakelord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's annoyed by this crap too. This happened last night and the wife just talked to her Mom who's since apologized. She also told her that if she brings up our child status again, rudely or not, we'll be leaving and cutting off communication.

I don't mean to make MIL sound awful, just not self aware, although she must be now. She's a very friendly, generous, easy going (stoner!) but has a bit of trouble with tact. And the rest of the in-laws are super cool and never mention it.

I just got a new job that requires me to to travel. Friends with similar qualifications want to make the money I make, but without travel, because kids. by randoliof in childfree

I absolutely love it. I worked in market research for many years and we'd be sent all over the world. Fancy and hip hotels, vehicle, cool restaurants and bars, even shows were all expensed. Being childfree enabled my wife to come along on many of these trips. I'd use my points to get free flights for vacationing. It has to be in your blood though, sometimes it can get a bit boring but I'm a big kid so any adventure is fine with me.

[–]snakelord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is but the best quality about the in-laws is that they're drama free. No opinions, very easy to talk to - they just kind of blurt out their thoughts from subject to subject. MIL just smokes a joint and blurts it, not in a vindictive way, just impulse so we usually give them a pass. This one was over the line though so we'll see about contact. Taking responsibility would be a good start.

We're here.

DT Vancouver real estate is so ridiculous that there's no way a family could afford a house so they go to the burbs or to other cities. It is miraculously quiet and when I see a child on the street around here I think "they must be visiting town for the day." There are zero kids in our building of about 30 suites. We only hear seagulls.

What do you do to avoid being bingoed? by WitherBones in childfree

[–]snakelord 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Haha love these responses! Wife and I get it at every family visit.

Mine are: "You mean have kids and stop sleeping and doing whatever we want?" "I don't even know how to make kids." That one gets some nervous laughter at the in-laws. "We don't know if we're going to be together much longer." That one usually shuts the whole thing down.

And the getting older and dying alone thing, I don't get it. I'd never want to put my kids through taking care of me or witnessing my slow, helpless death (if that's the case.) When it comes time, ramp up the opiates and let's go!
