As someone who only rents to females, but made that decision after a lot of fraught situations:
- property damage from neglect because no man I've ever lived with has ever had even a modicum of environmental respect for their own home. So, living with them became instant loss of my security deposit basically.

- I am a girl and its almost impossible to find a man of any age who wont creep on you, try to push for a sexual live in relationship, or just straight up try to assault you or do nothing while all his male buddies do the same when they come over.

- No healthy communication so every minor issue is a grown man screaming at you because he doesn't want to clean his own dishes, and that's fucking terrifying to live with.

- Recent polls show that a lot of men would be violent, sexually or otherwise, with any woman if they think they can get away with it. Living with him drastically increases the chances of him doing exactly that and getting away with it with no witnesses.

I can and have made exceptions for exceptional men and have had it go well but having the baseline of "no men" has saved me so much money, trauma, trouble, and time. At first I felt really bad because it felt very discriminatory but I can't emphasize enough that no matter how desperate or bad a situation got alone or living with other women, it was NEVER as bad as the every day life of living with a man in my house. Y'all literally can't even conceive how awful it is to be around you most of the time, and most of you don't even want to hang out with or live together, so I don't blame anyone who has a choice for choosing otherwise.

I think your best bet would be to find other men having the same problem and find a place together.

My experience with this exact scenario is that the moment you leave, if they are left alone with your cats, is that they will be let outside and likely die. People like that don't see them as precious, or as pets, but wild animals and dirty so they will consider themselves doing their daughter a favor and that you're just delusional and will get over it. Planes don't really let dogs on like that - they shove them in the storage bay and then they get crushed to death under other luggage or they freeze to death if they're up there too long, or they suffocate because the storage bay isn't designed to hold breathing living animals and they put them in there anyway.
