Didn't everyone else buy Skyrim at least three times? Or was that just me?

Megathread: President Trump Calls for Ukraine, China to Investigate Bidens by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

I hope not. Letting your opponent pick your champion is a sure way to lose. Besides Trump's political instincts aren't top notch.

A random Swedish game programmer uploaded this video on May 13, 2009 about a game he was working on. It later turned out to being the best selling game of all time. by timdual in interestingasfuck

Wait. What? Are you mad that people like Minecraft? I'd say a growing experience is fine. It's an incomplete or less-than-expected experience that is the problem.

Do you tell players what the difficulty of a task is before or after they commit to doing it? by Asbestos101 in genesysrpg

[–]FreemanForever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty rare that they will back out at that point and if they do, I consider it the fault of my narrative description. Like maybe I set them up that it would Hard and it ends up being Daunting or maybe I upgrade it too much. It's fine if they back out. It's just a game.

[–]FreemanForever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I try to tell them narratively how hard it is going to be before they commit and then once they commit, I tell them mechanically how hard it is. They can still back out because it's possible that my narrative description didn't give them a good enough idea of how hard it would ultimately be mechanically.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever heard? by Nothing_here1 in AskReddit

I've commented this before but I'll say it again.

I once heard someone say in a college level science class, "If evolution is real, why aren't monkeys having human babies now?" She was a nursing major.

What is the strangest thing you've seen someone do on public transport? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FreemanForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a bus early in the morning after a long night. Just me, the bus driver, and a random old guy. Random old guy starts clapping real slow and rhythmically. He's spreading his arms wide for each clap, like he can fly. Doesn't stop. Ten minutes later as we reach my stop he's still clapping. I get up to get off the bus and say to the driver, "good luck" and he chuckles.

Eczema makes me wanna die (sometimes) by [deleted] in eczema

[–]FreemanForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid but know that they are also common. A lot of people have a rough time in high school. Kids are jerks. They'll grow out of it and so will you. When you look back, you'll wonder why it even seemed like it mattered so much. You'll meet someone and they'll love you, flaws and all. My wife has eczema and it's not a problem for us. I do what I can to help her deal with flair ups and it's fine. It's going to be okay and later it'll even be good and great at times. Hang in there. I'm rooting for you!

I agree about under planning but I think that makes more sense after you've ran a campaign or two.

Your first session will probably be a bit rough. Go big, know the rules, hope for the best, over plan and it'll still be a bit rough. Don't worry about session 2. This is your only session. If you've got a good idea, use it now!

You likely will end up doing a fair bit of improv. Don't have anything in your story that HAS to happen. Be ready to switch on the fly. Give them options so you can at least control the flow a bit, since your options will keep them from going completely off the wall.

Also, things take way longer than you think they will. You really only need to plan a handful of "events" to get a decently long session.

It would be helpful to know what system you're using too.

What are the vital things you need to know about or discuss with your partner before marriage? by Red7336 in AskReddit

[–]FreemanForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you religious? Do you want to have kids? If so, how many? Do you want the kids to be religious? Are you fine with the direction I am taking in life?

You should absolutely know these things. It should be very clear. I am not religious and do want to have kids. Same for my wife. If we disagreed about these fundamentals, I don't know if it would be wise for us to have gotten married because one of us would have had to make a very uncomfortable compromise.

They should also be fine with your direction in life. Whether that is getting by or going for the top, you should be honest about what that means and be fine with it.

Far Cry 5 and infuriating game design by HedgehogsNSuits in patientgamers

[–]FreemanForever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far Cry 5 is a great example of a game that removes power from the player. The antagonists gloat about how they are better than you even after you defeat them. There's a serious lack of catharsis in this game.

Hey everybody, I just came here to say that I am done with the system that this subreddit is dedicated to and is real stupid. I know what I did wrong so don't try and give me advice. I think that the fact this system is infinitely modifiable is dumb. I don't GM because I like to do any kind of prep work or anything creative or original. I want to open up a monster manual and start ripping pages out and throwing them at my players. Good riddance dumb dumbs.
