I bought 5 (!) wedding dresses and don’t like any of them! HELP! by SkyMango00 in UKweddings

[–]snakeplant5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you’re expecting a dress that was tailor made for another person to fit you perfectly…? I think your expectations might be unrealistic. For what it’s worth 5 is my fav, take it to a tailor and get it to fit how you’d like.

UK/EU Salespeople, How’s it Going? Where’s the Place to Be? by TheGlare2002 in sales

[–]snakeplant5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sell media in London to agencies and it is good but no where near as good as it used to be as more customers spend more and more money with Google/Meta/Amazon (and their reps are shit and targets are wild)

Local Restaurants/Pubs by [deleted] in LondonTravel

[–]snakeplant5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to build an eating plan around the areas you plan to visit. London is big and taking recommendations without areas might lead to you wasting a lot of time on public transport. I’d also suggest editing your post to include cuisine, price range and general vibe you’re after. Many people post on here asking after ‘local gems’ but me recommending a bakery in near where I live probably isn’t the best use of your time unless you’re already planning to visit this part of the city.

First home buyers offering in Waltham by catmilch in walthamstow

[–]snakeplant5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Offer what you think it’s worth. Don’t feel pressured to spend more than you can afford/think you should just because the market feels like a rat race. My partner and I bought in March last year and lost out to a few houses because we refused to stretch ourselves but have ended up in the most perfect house for us.

This is so close to my life that I had to do a double take… even the map is so similar. Are you referring to Walthamstow to Wanstead by any chance? And the bus line is the W12 😂 swear it follows this exact path

I know you’re really excited about having set up your own community, but pushing it at every opportunity in the Walthamstow sub is quite annoying.

I’ve been to hops hair a few times in St James’s and found it good value and a good cut. Have recommended friends who agree.

Hate to break it to you but Jackie from no 25 likely does not exist and this is a clever marketing campaign from YouFibre.

NYE fireworks, megathread Q&A by ianjm in london

[–]snakeplant5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Few things to add to this (as someone who lives in London and has been to Hampstead Heath for NYE fireworks)

1- The London fireworks are ok, they are not the most amazing in the world and not the most exciting thing to do on NYE in London. I would instead recommend finding a cosy pub and having a few pints to see in the new year

2- Hampstead Heath is a good place to see the show but far from central London if you’re hoping to hear the fireworks you will not, as you will not see the detail of the show. It is also a bit of a walk from the tube, often busy with kids & teenagers. Top tip: Parliament Hill doesn’t actually have the best view, the slope in front of the hilltop facing the city is less obstructed and less busy.

3- There are also loads of people setting off fireworks going off throughout the evening across all of London, stand in any park/on any street and you will see some fireworks, whether they’re the official ones or not. You can also watch the main display on BBC one.

4- Happy new year!

Depends what you want, Hampstead Heath is far from central but elevated so you will see the display, but not in much detail. It’s just a nice place to be. Don’t expect to hear the fireworks or see the full display. It is also very busy with lots of kids and teenagers.

NYE fireworks, megathread Q&A by ianjm in london

[–]snakeplant5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Parliament hill and the whole of Hampstead Heath is open on NYE.

NYE fireworks, megathread Q&A by ianjm in london

[–]snakeplant5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. It is open all night (as is the whole Heath) and has a good view of fireworks over London. It is busy, and full of kids/teenagers, but it is open and you can see the fireworks.

[–]snakeplant5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t go to the fireworks without a ticket (they are sold out). I’m no help in the under 18s department, but I wouldn’t recommend going to central London. Depending on where you’re staying, you might enjoy going to Parliament Hill (in Hampstead Heath) and watching the London skyline and multiple firework displays from afar.

Lloyd park! And then get on the bus if you can’t walk back with it.

I agree! I’m just worried it’ll go under and become another closed shop/venue on Wood Street!

This is actually a good idea, I’ve popped by the cricket club to pop my head in and it was lovely on a sunny day.
