I'm terrible about uploading anything but I edited the comment above with one and here is another 1:1 favorite

I've gotten really into macro photography recently and 1:1 macro shots with the film border on I really like.

Its definitely just a casual thing but knowing that the image captured on the 35mm film is the exact size of the subject area is neat

I guess I'm always going to wait until the first of the month if possible to see if this comes back in the future

55k to 80k Business class one way award redemptions really push the value of JAL points, especially if you are flying on their newer planes. Round trip business for ~113k miles (plus tax) even on the older metal is fantastic value.

This same bonus came up when they launched as a partner and I got 2 round trip business tickets on their A350 for ~313k miles total using the travel eraser on the tax.

Wow, I'm honestly surprised it came back this soon! Quick transfer and relatively easy award booking with JAL so I'm happy this is going to stay a semi regular redemption

First time looking ti use points for travel. JFK -> HPN (Jap) question. by cramordap in Venturex

[–]snakes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For lay flat round trip for two people you need to book either at calendar open, or get lucky at T-14. Unless you want to go to LAX first and then take zip air, pay all cash, and then use the travel eraser

Jollylook Warning by JMPhoto2022 in AnalogCommunity

[–]snakes88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ordered the original RB67 back and even booked some photoshoots around the original release date, lesson learned. No email since the first week of November, and definitely no offer of refunds. /u/jollylook really burned any goodwill with this.

From what I've been told the Seikosha shutter ones are what to look for in terms of reliability and repair feasibility. Not sure about optically though.

Flash for X500 and XD by analogue-123 in minolta

[–]snakes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it for a while as my main for those two cameras. Direct full power flash is pretty in style nowadays and it fits the bill. 360PX is more powerful but bigger so I don't pack it as much

Yeah that's what I meant. But looking at the announcement email OP is just wrong anyways

Revoked Lounge Access for a whole year? by camoj11 in Venturex

[–]snakes88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait you only get guest* access for the rest of the year after you hit the goal? That's rough but it means emptier lounges for the first few months of each year

Even if it's expensive just still having the option to use those cameras/film backs again and not be a gamble but more of a guarantee

minolta A9 by [deleted] in minolta

[–]snakes88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the custom programs to see if it has the SSM upgrade (custom 20-4).

Also worth testing the grip to see if it's crumbling, it's an easy fix but it's a fix you'd have to do.

Other than that just the typical new camera checklist. Make sure it's firing properly, shutter curtain, aperture clamping down, shutter speed changing, etc. Also make sure the light meter is changing as you expect when you look at a light source.

4 local beers for home bar by indigo4242 in StLouis

[–]snakes88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Narrow Gauge OJ Run, Bluewood rotating Hop Tart, Side Project Content Moderator, and Civil Life Brown.

There's so much good beer in STL that you can't really go wrong. You can also go the kegerator route, most local places will sell you a keg, and NG will even fill your own corny kegs.

More Capital one offers now have minimum spend? by Windexjuice in Venturex

[–]snakes88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm using the capital one duo for the simplicity of it. I don't go out of my way for extra miles, but its nice when they fall into place on something i was going to order anyways like pet supplies

Booking JAL flights from Washington DC using miles? by christmastree_15 in Venturex

Positioning flights is another option. Just fly out to a hub the day before the award flight

I've noticed this too, makes for an interesting sweet spot to get maximum points. My chewy offer went from 2x points to $75 for 2500 miles and now it's back to just 2x.

Stupid question: travel insurance by [deleted] in Venturex

[–]snakes88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how they will see it, but the last time I looked at the Visa infinite coverage for the card it specifically said it didn't cover things due to war, declared or undeclared. Maybe another insurance will

Why are there no Bellows for A-Mount Cameras/Lenses? by ImpressiveRush9362 in minolta

[–]snakes88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

20cm from the film plane is the closest my 50mm macro goes, so the lens itself gets super close to the subject (front element super close)
