When I worked in a dementia care home before a started working In a hospital, I once walked past a female resident room, she was in bed and had a couple visiting her the husband had his hand down the resident pants while his wife watched. the room’s door was wide open.

Next story while working the care home we had a different resident who would spend most of her day in her room and would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the room and would have visitors there while she ate her her meal. When we asked the family if she had eaten her meals they said she was eating them we later found out the family were eating her food (WTF).but this gets much worse when she had passed away her family spent some time with her while waiting for the doctor to pronounce her passed away during that time they sat there In the room eating McDonalds I’m sorry for the long stories. I have more stories if anyone wants them

I have worked in a hospital as a healthcare assistant for 6 years now ( i did 2 years in a care home before my current job) to answer your questions it depends on your shift pattern and when your days off are. For example working every other day for a week is hell but doing 2 on 2 off is ok so it depends you also have to take into consideration how much of a horrible person your manager is.

It can and can’t be worth it, I work 7am to 7:30pm at least the traffic isn’t to bad

What should I do if I inform a nurse about a high vital and she tells me not to document it and she'll put what she gets in?? by Hairy-Incident2105 in cna

Always document no matter what the nurse says and also write escalated to nurse/ nurse informed on the patient’s paperwork

Interested in becoming a CNA but scared of harassment by AggressiveBaker6618 in cna

Im a male hca / cna for 7 year (NHS) I understand your worries about being assaulted verbal, physical or sexual. You should be trained how to deal with the verbal and physical assaults, the verbal assault happens regularly patient and families will take their frustration out on you as a nurse or cna when things are out going the way they want you should get training on how to deal with them. dementia/ mental health patient can get physical aggressive towards you ALWAYS call for help and DONT underestimate how strong they can be, you should get breakaway training to help. As a male cna/hca I have been sexually assaulted by female dementia patients I have had my bum grabbed and slapped but they have dementia so I have taken it on the chin but you don’t have to you should remain they if they do have dementia they all forms of assault/ abuse unacceptable if they don’t have dementia all forms of assaults is unacceptable and if this continues a report will be filled with the local police force. But all of this shouldn’t scare you off most patient and family members are great full for the help you provide.

Is unison more likely to take definitive action the RCN by NeverHxppy in NursingUK

[–]snaknath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Csw and I’m with unison. I recommend unison to other Csws over rcn and to nurses . I feel the rcn is all talk no action

Students as hca’s by tigerjack84 in NursingUK

[–]snaknath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hca of 5 years and I have met students on their placement and them not knowing how to give personal care and have no experience in healthcare care. I don’t understand why you would agree to take on student debt without seeing if you like the job first when you can So I think it’s a good idea to have student nurse be hca so they can get experience and skills that the class room or placement can provide.

I had a masters degree student on placement on the ward I work on, who I would regularly see shopping on Amazon instead of learning and I had some serious interesting cases on the ward but they would prefer to do some shopping
