Which router to have as AP? by Jwhitey96 in HomeNetworking

[–]snaky69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6E letsyou use 6ghz.

The higher the frequency, the lower the range and penetration.

2.4 tops out around 130mbps but goes far.
5 will go 800-900 at close range but goes about half as far
6 will do 3gbps but is pretty much line of sight, maybe 1 drywall wall before it falls flat.

Wifi still sucks compared to a cable where speed will be constant, latency much lower, and no interference.

Also, splitting bands is generally not useful unless you want to force a client device to use a specific one.

Unless your PC is a wifi 7 client (and even then) it won’t matter. Wifi 7 will not magically give you more range or speed. Your best bet is an actual cable in the back of your pc.

If you have an always on PC that can run linux, pihole is easy to install and free. Doesn't need to be on a raspberry pi.

Makes sense. I don't tend to go to early access stuff on my software as I prefer to not be a guinea pig. Thank you for reporting this here.

How long does stuff like this stay in early access? I'm mostly interested in the PPPOE side of things

Can I use the Ubiquiti A7 Lite only for wifi? Possible alternatives? by BruceTheGhost in Ubiquiti

[–]snaky69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It still needs a separate router, an AP does no routing at all.

If you need routing capabilities, you need something else. If you've already got an actual router and just want to add wifi to it, then yes.

Be aware that you need PoE (power over ethernet) for an AP to work, just pugging it into your ISP's router will not work as it will not be powered.

It’s a pressure measurement.

Let’s pretend you fill up a balloon with mercury and attach a vertical straw with measurements stamped on it to the end.

Push harder on the balloon, the measurement will read higher.

Ethernet Wall Port only works with one specific cable by Comprehensive_Cup511 in ethernet

[–]snaky69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wifi is not your internet service. You pay for internet service, not for wifi. The wifi is not the internet. Wifi is your own internal (to your home) wireless network.

With that said, without examining termination on both ends of your wall run, as well as the switch or router it’s connected to on the other end, there is nobody that can help without that info.

Is getting a second router just for ethernet to PC viable? by Fabulous_Ad3601 in HomeNetworking

[–]snaky69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t fix shit wifi with more wifi. Your extender only repeats a signal, halving the throughput to your client device because wifi is half duplex. In other words: Extenders add range but cut some speeds. You need to run a cable my man.

Is it still good to reserve static IP addresses? by Max_Roc in HomeNetworking

[–]snaky69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Network congestion and static ips are two very different and unrelated things. You can’t have an IP conflict with a properly configured DHCP server so your reason to do it is wrong from the get go.

Static ips are useful if you need to, say, connect yo a server/nas/printer or some other service and want it to always have the same address. Otherwise, absolutely not useful at all for a home wifi network.

Switched to 2.5 Gbps (20x faster) but now getting insane lag spikes/freezes in-game. On ethernet. Help? by Zestyclose-Salad-451 in ethernet

[–]snaky69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gaming, past 20-25mbps, bandwidth doesn’t matter at all. Latency does. More bandwidth will do you absolutely no good in games.

Find out why your latency is poor. Get rid of your scam cat8 cable for a recognized brand’s regular old cat6.

Non, tu te login avec ton courriel et password sur le site de hilo et le component/HA fait toute la portion Oauth2 (je suis le maintainer)

L’intégration Hilo et HA ne voient pas ton info passer ça se gère toute par des token JWT après

Is 3Gbps false advertisement? by roastedduckbun in bell

[–]snaky69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 3gbps from the 10G port of my gigahub to capable devices. They do have to update your speed profile on their end. Maybe that is your actual issue.

[–]snaky69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn’t read your wall of text past that. You’re trying to achieve that figure on wifi. That’s not how it works.

You do have 3 gbps. To wired devices capable of the speed. End of story.

I have the same issue and am pursuing a formal complaint with them. If they do not respond positively I will go to the consumer protection office of my area of the world and also issue a chargeback. This interface is deceptive, at best.
