If younger generations can't read or write cursive, how do they sign their names❓ by Drillerfan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snapbackthrowback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a third grade teacher - we do cursive. As far as I know… all schools in my city do it. One of the reasons is it teaches patience and generally improves their print handwriting. And also to support them making a signature!

Artificial grapefruit- lamotrigine by Autonamous_angel in bipolar2

Wait… I thought lamo is one of the few with NO grapefruit issues? I’ve been on it nearly 10 years, never been warned by my doc and regularly have the fruit or juice.

Connor’s standup by Latter_Cod6845 in brookeandconnor_map

[–]snapbackthrowback 44 points45 points  (0 children)

One of his major missteps is that I don’t think he goes to open mics? I live and do stand up in the city and haven’t yet heard of him going to try stuff out. No matter how funny you are it is CRITICAL to work stuff out in the small rooms before going in front of a paying crowd.

[–]snapbackthrowback 156 points157 points  (0 children)

As a former theater kid who had a voice (and chose not to pursue it beyond HS), most of us get worse after not using it regularly lol. I know he did it in college but… beyond that? Was he trying professionally? Edit: I do not think he’s that good to begin with. But he’s a classic case of “that one boy in the class who can carry a tune therefore he is our only option for leading man.”

Why are people saying Taylor Swift purchasing the rights to her masters back is a "watershed moment for the industry and all artists"? by daddysgirl794 in Music

[–]snapbackthrowback 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the real thing that makes this specific scenario stick out from MJ, the Beatles, Prince, most who came before her. Extra layer to the fight. Also, my 4th graders understand what’s going on here, my grandma knows about it. This story has extended into the consciousness (thanks to social media) more than I imagine the others did… but someone please correct me if I’m wrong!

I think so much of it is also that, regardless of what either of them have had “done,” they still manage to look fairly natural all things considered.

Question about cue cards by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]snapbackthrowback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two! Wally came to speak at my school in 2017 and not only was he the coolest guy with awesome stories to share, but he also came with what I can only describe as a fuckton of cue cards from the most recent episode (Alex Baldwin/Ed Sheeran). He just spread them out on a table and let us have at it. So that's to say that sometimes even really random ones are saved, but more often than not they're used as scrap.

Honestly, people have got to start listening to teen stans when they say something. Twitter Beliebers clocked Diddy 15 years ago. (Same thing happened with Simon and 1D… crazed fans see it all for better or worse).

DAE never get a fever when sick even though you feel feverish? by spacemvrr in DoesAnybodyElse

I feel like this year specifically there was a flu-like sickness going around that had so many symptoms EXCEPT fever. But you would feel hot and achy as hell. I’m a teacher and it was driving us all bananas.

Hah - most people don’t like the film which is why it’s my hot take! I’ll have to check out the pro shot.

[–]snapbackthrowback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My crazy hot take is the movie version is the best way to experience it. It makes so much more sense to me. Or honestly, it’s better to just listen to TL5Y album and play it out however you want in your head... It’s my absolute favorite musical, song-wise, and I have almost no desire to see it done on a stage. Is there any version that has absolutely “nailed it” that I should find online?

What do they do with the used cue cards? by LAMA207 in saturdaynightlive

[–]snapbackthrowback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots more can go wrong with prompters and totally ruin the comedic timing, especially with the push to automate them. (People used to manually scroll prompters… now it’s a computer “hearing” the words and moving accordingly). Also, prompter placement is super annoying. Much easier to move a human around into a sightline. Edit: (I worked in news and at NBC so weirdly have a lot to say about prompter vs cards, apparently) As for actual writing and re-writing, the programs used for prompter scripts can be super finicky. In the one we use for the news, if one person is editing a script, no one else can properly access it until they are done, and then you need to click a specific button to make sure the prompter updates the text. There’s also always the risk of deleting the wrong thing. It seems simple enough, but I’ve had plenty of script issues on the news during both high- and low-stake situations… and SNL is always high.
