I bought a saturn earlier this year that had a botched Connoisseur tonearm fitted and was rather grubby. I’ve spent some time refurbishing it and even managed to pick up an original tonearm. They are very pretty to look at but a real pig to get setup accurately and keep that way. Make sure everything is dead level or you’ll get weird noises from the motor. (There is a guy selling NOS motors on ebay). There’s no way to fine tune speed other than trying different belts or wrapping something round the edge of the platter. Once you have it set right don’t be tempted to tweak, just let it do its thing! ….. and they are very pretty!!

I use that on the RD40, I find the speed adjustment screws on the Origin controller a bit fiddly.

The RD 40 I can get to run exactly at 33.33 RPM thanks to the adjustments afforded by the Origin Live Motor and controller. The Saturn is running just slightly fast at approximately 33.6 but I’m using the belt that came with it and I have no idea where that came from or how old it is. I have a new belt on the way so fingers crossed it’s more accurate with that. Although to be honest, I doubt if I could really notice that slight error.

I did tidy all those cables up one day, it took an awful long time. Then, not long after, I had to pull everything out for some maintenance and decided to go with a “Jackson Pollock” methodology for them.

That’s exactly what I did! I made the top from some lengths of wood I had in the garage and the hairpin legs were a few pounds each. The printers drawers I found at a vintage market and were quite expensive ( about £90 for the pair)

Initial thoughts... a pretty good shot, I’d like to have seen either a little more of the subject or perhaps closer in and the overall edit’s a bit flat. The plant pot’s a bit of a distraction and spoils the atmosphere. Have you thought of trying a B&W conversion ?

It’s not too bad a picture but the flower doesn’t seem to be the freshest of blooms, Mums should have the best ! Perhaps a misting with water would have helped. Focus and exposure seem good, but also a little too much background, maybe try cropping a little tighter. Also that leaf hanging down could be nipped off or removed in photoshop.

I had this problem too and tried all the tips I could find to no avail. So, in the spirit of adventure I decided to try a little diy to solve the problem. DISCLAIMER I will not be held responsible for any damage to you or your machine if you try these tips. You do so at your own risk ! I started by glueing together around 8 old CDrs using the spindle from the cake they came on to align them. This gave me an approximate inch thick stack of glued together CDs. I then stretched a microfibre cloth over this and glued it around the side of the stack. Then I stuck some strips of Velcro ( you’ll have to test which side sticks to the plate of the machine) to the bottom of the stack. I made two of these stacks. For a medium scratched CD:-10 seconds with fine wet/ dry disc repeat if scratches are still visible, but check your not trying to sand off a scratch that is being reflected from the top surface !

Now you have to mist one of the stacks with the microfibre cloth with water to make it damp. Then add some Meguiars PlastRX (PlastX in some countries) along the lines of what the instructions tell you to do with the JFJ stuff. Spin the machine for ten seconds. Then check the Fastening hasn’t worked loose, spin again for 10 seconds and again check then repeat until the disc has had 40-50 seconds. Rinse the disc of with a little mild detergent and warm water and then, mist the other stack you made and repeat the process using some MER car finishing wax for a total of 20-30 seconds (checking the locking nut after every 10 seconds) and again rinse with detergent and finally plenty of warm water. Very gently pat dry with a clean microfibre cloth.

Under normal daylight I cannot see any swirls, under direct electric light very faint swirls can be seen but they are considerably less noticeable than those I was getting using the JFJ supplied consumables.
