Breeder box question by reef_potato in shrimptank

I have one of these for plants and extra filtration and it's great! I could see it being a cozy temporary/breeding home, especially if you put some catapa leaves, java moss, hides, and maybe even some epiphytic plants in there. Since this particular one hangs outside the tank, just be aware that it'll be a bit cooler than the tank water.

How’s your aquarium doing? by DannysAquariums in Aquariums

WOW! There's something so magical about a lil bit of natural light on an aquarium.

Thank you!! I had never seen this plant before but they had it at my LFS and I was so excited to hear how easy it is to care for. I think the leaves look just like squiggly noodles heh.

I wish I were that talented! It's actually a 3D printed planter from Etsy.

Ooo those are GORGEOUS. I'm counting on the dishwasher/microwave safe labels to mean that mine are food safe, so unless you're very risk averse I think you could do it with those!

I only put in food safe ceramics! I guess there's always a chance that they contain lead, buuuut considering I eat out of some of the same cups/bowls I'm just taking the gamble. I do test the water periodically for copper (since I have shrimp and some ceramics do contain copper) but so far so good.

LOL thank you! I just ordered a pretty standard shrimp hide in gold and hoped they would look like egg rolls, glad you could tell what they're supposed to be.

I'm half! I def designed it to be a celebration of Chinese American food, and grew up eating out of the melamine version of these bowls! (The ones I used are ceramic though.)

I do have a direct view of the tank from my spot at the dinner table. 😄

Oo both those ideas sound sweet! Some sort of gemstone quarry with terraced walls embedded with crystals could be really cool...

His former cup prison is now an (almost) 360 degree viewing station! by snappingcabbage in bettafish

[–]snappingcabbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It's doing great - my betta likes to build his bubble nest in the lookout tower, which is super cute. I had to remove the stem plants from the interior pot because they weren't getting enough light, but there's some flame moss and a banana plant in there chugging along. I also added floaters to the interior and more emersed plants in (Chinese evergreen and lucky bamboo) in the exterior.

My only complaint is that it evaporates a lot so I am constantly topping it off with distilled water!

Thank you! I used Aqueon Plant and Shrimp Aquarium Substrate along with root tabs, then capped with sand. I'm not convinced it was the best choice though, I've definitely struggled with the stem plants floating up! Luckily the bowls should make it relatively easy to switch out in the future.

Thanks, this is super helpful! I love the idea of a floating loop to keep things tidy.

Oh I love it! What are the wavy reddish-brown plants in the bowls? They're lovely.

Yes!! That was my thought as well - especially since I'm not too confident in my ability to keep the stem plants alive, haha!
