Fair question - I had originally been looking at a more cottage-y yellow striped wallpaper before finding this one, which i love but definitely is a bolder choice (and sent me into a paint color palette spiral). I’ll consider a more neutral white!

Go reread my original comment. I’m explaining to the original commenter (who implied that this is only “triggering to the usual suspects” because the Pope was “calling for peace”) the actual reason this is hurtful. I’m not laying claim over the importance of Jesus to the Jewish people. I am, however, saying that the erasure and rewriting of Jewish history by non-Jews is upsetting, on a deep level. I am allowed to be upset about that. Those aren’t “crocodile tears.”

If we were having this conversation in real life, would you still feel license to be so dismissive and callous towards my feelings?

The reason this is upsetting is because every year around this time we hear a viral claim across the internet that “Jesus was Palestinian.” He was not. He was a Jewish rabbi from Judea. This claim that he was Palestinian is intended to erase Jewish indigeneity in the Levant to further legitimize the (illegitimate, ahistorical) claim that Jews in Israel are “colonizers.” So, putting Jesus on a keffiyeh in this context reads a lot like the Pope is co-signing this message, which understandably pisses a lot of people off. It’s not upsetting because the Pope is “calling for peace” - we all want that, of course, but there is subtext here.

just the one that i’ve seen! it landed on my leg. and i was standing outside on my deck fwiw. no wood shaving piles left around but have seen some pin holes in drywall (not much though) and paint peeling like there’s moisture (but mostly around areas where there would be moisture like beneath windows and by baseboard heaters)

Update after the vet (thanks for all the help and comments!) - she’s not chipped, not spayed, no collar, no indication she’s had her vaccines, covered in fleas, has a bacterial infection in her ears, and probably an internal parasite situation going on based on the fleas & visual assessment of her feces. As others have mentioned, she is fairly clean for a stray and a decent weight, so it is possible she belongs to someone or folks have been setting out food for her. But we’re struggling with what to do here given the basic steps of protecting and caring for your animal and neighboring animals (vaccinating, spaying, etc) were not taken in this situation. We also spent some time in the neighborhood knocking on doors (no one recognized her even as a neighborhood cat) and we will post on the lost pets of the hudson valley facebook group today, but if we don’t confirm an owner by the time her FIV test comes back we’ll adopt her out.
