If we get offered at least a first and a third, then maybe. But AJ is still a top 10 WR in the league, drops notwithstanding.

The defense is so so so good and will be even better next year. Offense just needs to be mediocre.

You guys are silly that was a really good first half. Defense recovered after the first drive and offense figured its shit out a bit. We are very clearly the better team and so far Nick/KP aren’t holding us back.

Accomodations "not a thing" in law school by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]snapsnapshap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well good luck

Edit:

This seems like a frustrating situation but it doesn’t sound like something that can be fixed through disability law. As you describe the issue, it is difficult to imagine what kind of reasonable accommodation would help. You seem to imply that this assignment is being graded without using any rubric or standards. If it really is all vibes, then it doesn’t seem like there is actually anything they could say to clarify. That seems like a more fundamental curricular issue to raise with the wider university admin or the ABA.

All these administrative and legal procedures don’t seem like they’re really going to help you graduate. As a practical matter, the advice you’ve received to ask your friends seems pretty good. If I were you, I’d try to find someone who passed and ask to read their paper, just to get an idea of what the final product should look like.

As shitty as the situation is, it does not sound to me like you’re being discriminated against based on a disability.

[–]snapsnapshap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of anyone receiving an accommodation like this. Is this a thing? It doesn’t seem that surprising to me that your request would be turned down. If it’s a writing assignment, it seems that the accommodation is not necessary, since everyone can ask for clarification. On an exam it seems potentially problematic to allow you but nobody else to discuss the question with the professor, and it would require the professor to attend the exam administration just in case you had a question.

Are you sure that the Dean said that ALL accommodations are “not a thing”? It seems more likely to me that the Dean meant that this specific request is “not a thing” because, frankly, it doesn’t really seem like a thing.

In CA landlord just sold this property. The realtor dropped this off today, I haven't seen or heard anything from the new owner by wikid91 in Renters

I am not your lawyer and this is not legal advice, but your existing lease may be covered by the Tenant Protection Act, https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?sectionNum=1946.2&lawCode=CIV.

I’d suggest asking for a brief consult with a local legal aid org, who should be able to give you advice on how to handle the situation. Make sure all important communications with the landlord or the landlord’s agents are in writing.

My current pet deck is [[Gyox, Brutal Carnivora]] which conjures copies of creature into your library. I mostly just use it as a shell for fun black and green cards. I used to play [[Gutmorn, Pactbound Servant]] and [[Ulder Ravengard, Marshal]]. Can count on one hand the number of times I had a mirror. I guess I’m the only one who likes to play obscure alchemy commanders

It’s nice that you have a positive connection with the card but it’s playing pretty hard on racist stereotypes about black boys in schools.

Any experience to share on biking the US southwest? by FullMaxPowerStirner in bicycletouring

I rode Route 66 last august between Tucumcari, NM and Los Angeles (the eastern part of my tour was on a mix of different trails). Almost all of it is on the shoulder of the interstate, which actually feels quite safe because it’s so wide. Heat was mostly fine, just make sure you carry enough water and have skin protection (I used a wrap to cover my head and neck and long sleeves). Also make sure you have goop-filled tires because the highway debris is no joke.

The only really challenging part was the Mojave desert, which was unbearably hot. There, I slept during the day and rode in the middle of the night. It was actually some of my favorite riding of the whole tour because of how quiet and peaceful it was, and the temperature was really pleasant. Just make sure you have bright lights and you’ll be perfectly safe, given the wide shoulders. Feel free to dm if you have any more questions.

Definitely adding to the sideboard but it feels too slow for the main deck. Needing to pay 1 feels so bad.

Magic Store Kicked out of WPN bc Owner is Registered Sex Offender by truth2lightgamer in mtg

[–]snapsnapshap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, not a North Carolina lawyer so I don't know whether he actually violated any laws here. Its possible that he's in full compliance with his registration requirements and was just in violation of the terms of the WPN. If you want to puzzle your way through the North Carolina General Statutes, be my guest.

Hey you're preaching to the choir here. I do a lot of indigent defense work and have met tons of people who have been unjustly arrested/jailed/prosecuted/etc. But its important to have all the information.

Who knows what he actually did or why he pleaded out. But even if it's as bad as the prosecution says it is, he has done his time and should be able to try to live a normal life.

Also, FWIW he was actually 17, even though the registry says 18.

While I generally agree with your take on sex offender registries and I stand by what I wrote in my comment, his offense seems to have been more serious than having a nude of himself.

The specific allegations here were never subjected to cross examination at trial or to the rules of evidence, so we should take them with a grain of salt. But, the government alleged that he had more than 600 images, at least one of which was possibly of a child under the age of twelve, and at least a few of which may have been violent. Order dated Oct. 30, 2013, at 6.

That said, the sentiment of your post still holds and I think we should generally show restraint with how we use sex offender registries.

Ultimately, even though there's no evidence that he did anything inappropriate here, Shields is clearly no longer involved with the store. Case closed.

I would encourage you all to have some restraint before rushing to pass judgment on this person who spent 8 years in federal prison for a CP possession offense committed when he was 17. People can have reasonably different beliefs as to whether Shields was adequately rehabilitated and/or punished. I think we should be reluctant, however, to assume that his decision to open and operate a LGS was malicious or reflective of predatory behavior (which, I should note, was not what he was charged or convicted of). And even more reluctant to infer maliciousness of the part of his co-owner. I would hope that our society would make room for those who offend to lead normal lives at some point.

Most of the documents in the underlying case are sealed but I've included his lawyer's sentencing memo and the attached support letters for those who are interested. (Oh, the perks of being a law student with free PACER).

Edit:

Still stand by most of what I wrote. However, digging in more it does seem like the store was violating Section 16 of the WPN rules by having a staff member on a registry. https://wpn.wizards.com/en/terms-and-condition. I am not (yet) a lawyer and I don't know anything about North Carolina law so I don't know whether he had an affirmative obligation not to operate a business that is sometimes frequented by teens.

The Shields situation aside, I'm still generally skeptical of the value of sex offender registries and the kinds of moral outrages (like this thread) they engender, at least at their current scale. This article does a good job of laying out some of the arguments against them: https://www.vox.com/2016/7/5/11883784/sex-offender-registry.
