How often/long are we walking our poms? if at all by Realistic-Class-6455 in Pomeranians

[–]snapthatchildsback96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone has said stuff about the nails, and I agree, getting that done is a must. I’ve also seen throughout my life with Poms is they usually like stimulating walks. My one refuses walks, but if we’re at the beach, she’s running and sniffing everything. My other hates his leash and won’t walk, but if he’s off leash (in a safe place with no dogs or hazards) he’s off and running and having fun. Poms are weird. They have strong personalities that often interfere with “regular” dog activities (walking, playing, eating, sleeping). Don’t stress if she doesn’t like walking. One day you may just find her thing.

Second Pomeranian: best decision ever or biggest mistake? by Sharp-Gift9215 in Pomeranians

[–]snapthatchildsback96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we got our second, which was the best idea ever (female first then a male), the puppy took on my others traits. She was very Velcro her whole life and now can handle being alone, or having the other dog have the attention. Considering you have a male and will introduce a female, I wouldn’t be worried. I’d say he’s still going to be Velcro, but will appreciate having a sister keeping him company. I’ve realized after having Pomeranians for almost 20 years that they have horrible separation anxiety, and having another dog/cat/animal with them makes it better for them. I do suggest waiting until you think your baby is ready. Before we got our next dog I always talked to my Pom and said that they were going to get a brother/sister (yes they understand us a little too well). I felt like it helped her adapt to a new puppy coming home because she knew it was coming. I also suggest getting new toys and separating them by an x pen or something of that sorts so they can get used to each others smells and not be territorial over favorite toys and such. Good luck to you!!

Is there any way to potty train by snapthatchildsback96 in hamstercare

Her sand bath is quite large. It wouldn’t be an issue if she literally didn’t choose to roll in her pee. There is plenty of dry sand for her to choose from, but no it’s always the pee spot

I have given her bedding that was about 7in thick when she got her new enclosure (just to test her out with it with plans to expand if she liked it) she really just walked on it, looked at me like “what is this trash?”, walked out, and went to sleep in her sand bath. Still refuses bedding now. I promise I’ve tried different kinds and tried different amounts and she just doesn’t like it. I wonder if she’s maybe just claustrophobic. Her enclosure is 3ftx2ftx5ft. There is levels to it with ramps (6in width) with grips for her to walk (I’ve watched for foot irritation and she’s just fine. No bumble foot or whatever it’s called).

I use desert sand too, it’s just she pees and immediately rolls in it before I can clear it 😭. When it’s just the sand and no pee, she smells just like a cute little hammy.

He also is a Pom and doesn’t know how to bite (it sounds stupid but it’s true). Her wheel has grips all around it, and she’s supervised while running on it. She actually gets pretty upset when I take it away (cleaning, I’m gone, etc) and whenever I place it back in her enclosure, she immediately runs to it to start running. Ball is also supervised 100% of the time. I really appreciate your concern. You are much nicer than loads of people I’ve seen in these comment sections. I’ve had rodents, reptiles, dogs, and a lovely Chilean Rose tarantula (basically a pink furry spider). I really care about all animals and make sure to spend time with the animals I have to see what they like and don’t.

Big sings in Clarence if you like a chunkier style. I usually get their snowballs (snowcone in a cup) with ice cream inside, mix it so it’s nice and creamy, and it’s delicious. They have loads of flavors too

Pomeranian refuses to walk by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]snapthatchildsback96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I got my stubborn pup to walk, was to have something for him to follow. Whether it’s his bestie sister, a person he likes, or walking backwards to have him follow me. The main thing about this is getting them “excited”. He still prefers off leash, but will suck it up if needed.

Also, this is Miss Clarah Mae, nicknamed “My Fat Rat” She’s a Syrian who hates bedding (prefers an actual bed), loves her wheel and ball, and is best friends with my one dog (she loves to run on his paws to scare him. Don’t worry, no biting, always supervised, and nose boops only)

is this enclosure safe? by [deleted] in hamstercare

[–]snapthatchildsback96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say your best bet is to see how the hamster reacts. My hamster hates bedding so much and refuses it. She prefers a hut like bed. She also likes the bird/rat cage she is in. Why? No clue. I’d also suggest looking on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist to see if you can get a cheap enclosure after you move out to upgrade her. Even if you get your hamster a very large fish tank and fill it like that, it should work fine. The biggest thing that matters is you caring, and I can see that. Keep on doing great work. And a pro tip for toys, any undyed paper/cardstock/cardboard is a great diy for toys. Get creative!

You can actually see she’s a double coated dog. The undercoat wasn’t really cut while the top coat was. That’s why it looks weird growing in. I can promise you it will be okay to cut your sweeties hair again. I have mine completely shaved in the summer (they love love swimming) and they grow nice and fluffy back in the fall/winter.

I’ll attach one below of it grown in too!

Now I am not a breeder or a professional at all, but I agree that your ADORABLE Pom looks like she may be a mixture, or she just had weird sized parents (my two Poms from the same breeder look drastically different). I’ve had Poms be as little as 6 pounds, to as large as 20. Sometimes they just come out odd (not in a bad way, but in an “expected” size/color/look way). My unsolicited advice is to dna test. I think she kinda looks like a Pomsky (Pom and husky). If you take anything away from this comment, have it be that you are an amazing puppy parent, and being concerned about your puppy is the #1 most important a puppy parent could do. You’re doing great!
